Walking and Interaction Tutorial controls not working

I was attempting to run through the tutorials from start to finish, and noticed the first tutorial (Walking and Interaction) does not seem to be working.
To clarify, control inputs other than menu's do not seem to work. You cannot move your pilot within the opening room or interact with anything.
I've tried with steam device configuration on and off, I've remapped the controls etc.

This issue does not seem to be a problem with any of the other tutorials so I don't think this is any kind of issue on my end.
This is a fresh install with no mods installed.

Not a blocker as it only seems to be the first tutorial...

You haven't told us much about your system and what you are using to control your character. A link to your DxDiag would be handy and it may also be an idea to provide your config and input map files to give the devs chance of seeing where the problem might creep in.
