Crew matters on what size of ships?

So obviously crew matters on L/XL class ships.
I think they matter on M ships too but I might be wrong.
But what about S ships? My shipyards have no crew but I want to build a fleet of Cutlasses.. So does crew matter here? Or do I just take the free captain and that works?

Several of the things ships (of all sizes) can do are influenced by combined skill of captain & crew, so better for them to be there than not. Recommend consulting the crew sections of this guide for more details on specifics.

Damn, that's annoying. It has evasion and attack behavior on it so I need to fill up that 1 crew too.
Anyone remember if you can mass reload crew like you can mass change equipment? Might have to do that then. Didn't want to build too many stations but my HQ is out of range of the MREs so I'll need to build one of my own...

Crew seem to be locked out from the group changes. You can queue crew changes on a group of ships in one shopping order but you have to drag the slider separately for each ship, even if the change is identical.

That sucks. Though apparently despite the shipyard telling me there is no crew while logical overview telling me there is workforce, the latter won out and fortunately I don't have to go assign crew to my fighters.
