cause and effect of crew price difference between docks?

I have searched the forums and Google but I'm but finding this topic even brought up:

I see crew prices on the "change equipment" screen varying between 4,500 and over 10,000.

What causes the price difference? I think it might be the supply because after I recruited about 100 crew, the price went up. But are there other differences?

And is there any benefit in paying for the more expensive crew? I don't think so. I recruited a few ZYA Marines for about 12k each, and they had less than 1*.
So the "you get what you pay for" doesn't seem to apply at all.

Available workforce at the shipyard, wharf or eqiipment dock determines crew price. Supplying your preferd yard with food and meds makes qeuiping crew cheaper.

Avarage crew stats are affected by their faction. For example, if you hire marines from VIG then about 1/3 of them have already one star in boarding, but they aren't more expensive. Argon and Teladi have better pilots.

You first pay the price based on workforce availability, then an RNG rolls their stats.

I did notice that everything is a bit cheaper at equipment docks. I suspected the available workforce to be a factor, good idea with supplying food and medicine. Will check my favorites docks to see what they need.

The VIG does indeed give better Marines, I had read it was Split, but VIG is better, though double the price of the Argon equipment dock.

Which race has Engineering bonus? I read it was PAR, but they were just more expensive.
