Feature request handling and feedbacks

Post by azaghal »

Hello all,

This might end up being a bit of a spicey post, but... In the last two play-throughs I have decided to stick to vanilla and not use any mods whatsover (QoL included) - simply to get a good grip on what the game has to offer in its pure vanilla form (and partially to be able to report eventual bugs encountered). This is unlike my first playthrough where I ended-up installing a bunch of QoL mods within first couple of hours of play.

Along the way I have been taking plenty of notes on various aspects of the game that I found lacking - primarily focused on QoL, UI, and some UX aspects. It has even lead me to try to cope with some of the encountered limitations using external applications - macros, convenience shortcuts etc.

I could invest some time cleaning up and posting all those notes here, but... I am not sure if it would be worth my time. So first I would like to maybe get a good idea about people's experiences so far (or who knows - maybe even a dev throws in some opinions in here).

Now to the topic - coming (back) to these forums from Factorio, one thing I found lacking is absence of a more dedicated sub-forum for ideas, suggestions etc, alongside some tangible responses from the developer side on whether there would be any plans to implement the said ideas/features or not. The devs do not post answers there all the time, but there is some amount of activity.

One can post in the general X4 Foundations forum (like this thread here), but it feels like a lot of those posts just get burried under, repeated over-and-over again, or sidetracked with tangential discussions (not that I don't like myself a nice good ol' tangential discussion myself :) ).

In some cases people unbury older topics/feature requests, only to be told to open up a new topic - in spite of the old one still being highly relevant and with plenty of good feedback - thus making the forum even less searchable for such feature request/improvement discussions.

So, some questions in general:
  • What are the chances of getting a dedicated sub-forum for feature requests/suggestions/ideas that would include more definitive feedback from devs (and where at least some form of deduplication would be done)?
  • What are people's general experiences on seeing QoL changes applied to the game - when they are coming from players themselves? Is it even worth the effort to post those at this stage of game development?
  • If it is actually worth posting suggestions, is the best approach to have one feature listed per thread (I have about 70 items at the moment, though some might get culled)?
Best regards,
Branko

I've been wondering about this too, as a grade-A lurker. I have a couple fairly straightforward ideas that I think would help ease some pain points, some of which are handled, albeit quite crudely, by mods. Appreciate the clarification from staff if/when it comes!
