My fleet accidentally killed one drone...

Post by RubyRezal »

I'm guarding the gate to Tharka's Cascade. After hours of defending this spot entirely on my own the Paranid finally show up with a whole fleet of destroyers. I'm personally occupied retrieving an abandoned ship while my crew mops up the last wave to come through the gate. I land the recovered ship when I get an allert that my fleet just accidentally destroyed a Paranid drone...

A drone...

The Paranid, whom I have 20+ reputation with, instantly flip out and their whole destroyer fleet opens fire on my ships.

Geez guys, I'm sorry a stray shot blasted one of your bots but could you please chill? I've got an Aux ship right here and materials, I've been printing drones for my H for days. I'll gladly resupply you, just don't ruin my whole day for one drone.

Deplomacy? What's deplomacy? :(

Yeah, this is a long standing issue with high attention combat. What generally happens is a small ship or a drone slams into a ship/station during its attack run and gets annihilated by fire incoming to that target. No matter how forgiving they tweak things to be about turret fire, the direct death of something turns its squad red and from there things quickly spiral.

Ironically, sometimes killing them all is actually the best solution. Had that happen with VIG once when testing the end crisis in beta. The fighter group just got splatted so rapidly after turning hostile, that nothing else joined in.

Unfortunately taking them on was not really an option. My ships were all well within range of their L plasma turrets and all facing the wrong direction. The Paranid fleet basically snuck up behind my fleet while I was collecting loot.

Really wish they'd build more leniency into friendly fire detection, maybe increasing leniency with higher reputation with a faction. That or some way to de-escelate that itsn't "fight or flight".

Friendly fire happens way too often. Turrets will stupidly try to shoot through friendly targets and friendlies cross into firing lines like they have zero situational awareness.

Earlking is spewing hundreds of glowing projectiles per second... you'd think other ships that aren't the target might want to fly clear of that. :?

There is a very common element in games (and societies, really) that have police systems: a way to de-escalate and pay restitution. It is there for good reasons. Why Egosoft have decided theirs should be a system without it, I have no idea, but this is the end result: committing any crime can only result in hostility, which results in more hostility, et cetera.

This is very frustrating. It actively discourages me from helping other fleets when I see them in trouble.

I went into Tharka's Cascade and just had to sit and watch while the Xenon swarmed a TER Intervention Tokyo. My fully equipped Erlking could easily solo that but I don't want to risk accidentally hitting one of the TER ships and accidentally start a war. Sucks to be them I guess.

Wasn't until their fleet was obliterated and the Tokyo was disabled I finally went over to take out the K. I could have helped much sooner, I wanted to help much sooner. It's maddening not being able to assist other faction fleets for fear of them turning on me after a single accidental hit on a friendly. (I say single, but the Erlking M turret is a bullet hose so... )
