How can I save the follow camera settings?

I'm playing with FOV set to 60 and almost all ships have camera issues.

I have to change the settings every time

It works fine until I quit the game after changing the settings.

But when I relaunch the game, all the settings are reset.

How can I make this persist?

I also tried changing camerasettings.xml to readonly, but that didn't work.
