Hello all,
A week or two I started a new (Paranid start) playthrough, and one thing I have noticed is that at the very beginning there was way more missions that offered exceptional ship mods as rewards. I cannot guarantee the exact mission composition (I did not pay attention to it at that time), but I think they came from both the regular faction missions (Paranid and Teladi) and their corresponding guild missions. The missions themselves were not even necessarily super-difficult ones, plenty of them were achievable early game (so nothing like a station destruction or station turret destruction - although those were also part of the pool for things like exceptional weapon chambers).
Now that I am hitting something like mid-game, and have lost a ship where I had some exceptional mods installed, I started to pay attention again to missions that might offer exceptional ship mods, and curiously enough - very few missions are coming up with exceptional mods - it is mostly down to basic and advanced ones. There are, of course, some higher-rating missions (like station destruction) or some defense station/fleet construction ones that might give you a ship with the mods pre-installed.
So... Is this an actual game mechanic that others have encountered as well?
Best regards
P.S.
I am well aware of the other forms of grabbing exceptional mods from specific ship types etc, just wondering why the start feels different in terms of mission rewards.
Excepetional mods showing up less as mission rewards as game progresses

There is no such game mechanic. It sounds like you're just having a bit of bad luck with the RNG.

Looks like the game is nothing but a collection of bad RNG.
At some point I will probably try to do another new play-through, so maybe at that point I will try to pay a bit closer attention to mission composition and rewards. Given that I do a lot of missions in the game in general (and kinda pick them based on visible reward), I somewhat doubt that this is just down to pure RNG.
Best regards

Well... To add salt to injury, I had two missions with exceptional mods pop up from the Paranid about half an hour after I made the comment on RNG... I might still pay a bit more attention on the initial play-through, because it did feel like the amount of such missions was way greater. But could be just confirmation bias as well...

Each mission has a pool of rewards it draws from, if there is not any interesting rewards for a particular mission you wish to do you can accept the mission, wait for quest prompt to appear, abort mission, switch sector and go back to sector to see a refreshed reward on offer for that particular mission.
Some of rewards are terrible compared to what you could get.

Yeah, but that just feels like a bit of a clutch to me - although I have done things like that for some of the boarding missions (since you don't always know ahead of time whom they want you to target). And I keep thinking that aborting missions used to (in previous iteration of the series - but not 100% sure on it) affect faction standing (or maybe failing them?), but I don't think that's a game mechanic implemented in X4.insolent1 wrote: ↑Fri, 15. It is a fair point, though - basic paint mod as reward for a full-blown defense station construction in area with hostilities? No thanks...

haha, i know that abandoning missions does nothing bad... but it's a stat that is tracked in your player stats... and I don't like the abandoned part. It's purely psychological... because if it wasn't tracked, I'd probably do it more often to cycle mission rewards.azaghal wrote: ↑Fri, 15. How are missions cycled? Like how often are they reset and new missions presented?
