Hey all,
Not the first time I've posted about this, but worth mentioning again.
Turrets on my Capital Ships focus too much on trying to shoot the Turrets of other Capital ships. Result:they miss 75%of the time.
I've been watching several of my larger ships - Eight Large Plasma Turrets, dozens of Medium Plasma Turret in total - trying to shoot ONE Xenon K. The Xenon K has managed to manoeuvre consistently in such a way that most my my ships' shots are MISSING. Why? Well, my ships seem exceptionally focused on shooting the turrets at the FRONT of the Xenon K. This means that, as the K manoeuvres, they MISS most of the time. If my ships aimed at the centre of the K, they'd actually be hitting it very consistently. If they missed the turret, but still splashed on the hull proper, that'd be fine, but they miss entirely when the target's Turrets are near the edge of the ship from the attacker's perspective.
This totally infuriates during a Capital ship battle. My ships should totally out-match the Xenon K, but that assessment is based on them being able to actually hit the Xenon K. I wish there was some setting - more menus and drop-downs, I know lol - to ORDER my turrets to aim at the SHIP and not try to snipe turrets. Perhaps a ship could be smarter and AWARE it's constantly missing the target it's aiming for (enemy turrets) and go for the hull instead - especially with heavy, slow shot-speed Turrets.
Is there some internal logic that dictates what a Turret will shoot at? Do they ever just go for the hull or do they always try to hit turrets? I'm seeing sooo much wasted fire power from my ships, yet the Xenon K is doing exceptionally well, reliably hitting my ships and seemingly NOT aiming for turrets. I can clearly see the Xenon K's shots landing all over the hull, with no obvious bias towards any surface elements. My ships on the other hand, I'd suggest that 75% of their shots go wild as they try and fail to hit the K's turrets.
Quite comically, I did have dozens of Fighters and Corvettes too. However, conversely, they were totally failing to shoot the K's turrets - which would usually be what they'd go for.
Now, we have a the right-click "Attack..." option now, a relatively new addition. This gives us the options to attack:
- All Surface elements
- Turrets
- Shield Generators
- Engines
Great, but why not an option to just shoot the darn ship! Also, do these commands only impact the aim of a ships main guns, or turret behaviours too?
Look, I LOVE being there watching these huge battles. Currently there are 100+ Escape pods dotting the battlefield in this current epic fight, I'm likely to LOSE at this point, which I really don't mind. However, with my ships being unable to hit their targets due to their aim, well, it feels a little unfair that it's come to this.
Do you notice this too? Are your ship's turrets seemingly obsessed with trying to hit a surface element they really cannot reliably aim at? Would you rather they just attacked the ship proper, hitting with far more shots and getting an out-right kill, rather than possibly (but likely not) take out a turret or two? Save Turret sniping to BEAM type turrets or main guns with a fast shot speed. It really doesn't work well with regular Plasma (or other shot shot) projectile Turrets.
