@ English Readers: Khaak / X-Universe War {STORY}

Post by RustiSwordz »

Parts 1/ 2/ 3

I cant translate this to German, my apologies, but i thought fans may be interested in my efforts, can't let the English forum have exclusive fun. :D

Intercepted Reports from an unknown senior intelligence agency operative and a Star Field Marshal regarding the Khaak / X-Universe War.

Prequel
I am becoming increasingly concerned about the sudden rise of Khaak incursions into X-Universe territory. There have been increased raids into Gestu Fune from the main Khaak sectors in the east and north. Including a big rise in fast moving probes, centred mainly around the fringe systems or those of logistical importance. I have ordered fast fighter patrols and probes to be sent into Khaak territory and the results disturb me with large numbers of Khaak shipping assembling in what appears to be staging areas. I've sent word to the various Governments of the x-universe and told them to make preparations in case of conflict. I've also stepped up plans for a joint X-Universe Defence force to be set up in case the Khaak do go on the offensive. So far the Argon and Boron have shown a direct interest. The Teladi agree, in principal. The Split and Paranid are both suspicious and the Xenon haven't responded at all. This is unacceptable and I've ordered my agents to redouble their efforts in getting all races on board. Unless we can get a cohesive united-race fighting force together soon any possible large-scale attack by the Khaak will seriously cripple the X-Universe.

Week 1-5
Large formations of Khaak fighters have attacked key sectors in the east right up to Scale Plate Green, effectively cutting us off from all the new eastern sectors. They attack key sectors first, shipyards and equipment docks/ factories. Then move onto the less important sectors linking up with other Khaak battle-groups on the way. Little news from the conquered sectors, but survivors claim carnage and slaughter to be almost total, the Khaak wiping out military resistance before moving onto infrastructure then civilian targets. They attack in waves, small fighters first, then larger ships move in to mop up. The larger ships blockading the gates preventing escape. They also attack from all gates simultaneously which suggests that their ships are all equipped with jump drives as standard.
It is reported from eye witnesses that the larger ships are equipped with tractor beams and advanced teleports capable of beaming whole moving fighter craft through full shielding. There are no reports as yet of any boarding actions by the Khaak against shipping or stations, however there is an unconfirmed report of a Capital Khaak Vessel using its crab claws to 'grab' the trade stations hull in Omicron Lyrae, but this is as I said: unconfirmed.
Note: The Khaak's firepower is staggering, as is their numbers, the ratio of which is estimated to be 3/4 to1. The mortality rate between our ships and theirs is a similar rate, every one of theirs we kill, we lose 3 of ours. Resistance against the Khaak is fierce but ineffective. We must get all the races to work together now, we have little choice if we are to combat this.

Week 6-7
The Khaak advance has stopped when Scale Plate Green was assaulted. This was soon after the hastily assembled United X-Universe Space Military Defence Forces was announced. The combined firepower of all the races, despite their respective differences and doubts, forced the Khaak to hold position. However we are still on the defensive. It's amazing how a bit of fear can get all the races on board for the United Defence Project I just hope it's not too little too late.

Week 8-10
The Xenon managed to liberate Scale Plate Green, however whether or not the Xenon will give back SPG after the war remains to be seen and a problem for a later date. A combined force of 30 Split, Teladi, and Xenon Cruisers and Destroyers and 150 fighters is assembling in Cho's Defeat as we speak in preparation to mount an offensive against the Khaak in Nyana's Hideout. However they won't be ready for several days.
Note: The Xenon have engaged the enemy on their own accord without consulting with the United Forces Command structure. The only advantage of this is that they keep the Khaak off balance. But it could still be used against us and waste valuable ships on unnecessary engagements. This early on in the war we need to be cautious, and the Xenon had better fall in line.

Week 11
The UXSMDF forces engaged the Khaak in Nyana's Hideout, forced the Khaak back into Omicron Lyrae, unfortunately our fleet was badly mauled, so no pursuit could be mounted against the retreating Khaak. Probes and Recon ships suggest that the Khaak are fortifying their positions in Omicron Lyrae for a protracted war. Refugees are becoming and have been a problem. Fleeing the combat zones in their thousands in any ships they can find. This is causing a big problem for our military vessels who are having problems due to gate snarl ups. Local police are doing the best they can, trying to keep the civvies out of the way so our ships can move up to the front. One incident was caused when an Argon mammoth got stuck in a gate sideways, the gate couldn't engage and the panicked freighter captains following threatened to blast him out of the way. A Paranid tug with a quick witted captain and a cutting laser sliced the engines off the Mammoth then towed it out of the way with the Mammoths Captain hurling abuse over the comms at the Paranid tug! The Argon with the natural help of the Goner are trying to secure the refugee problem by moving them into secured areas in argon territory, even the doubtful Split and the frugal Teladi are doing their bit in helping the dispossessed people.

Week 12
Lack of ships is our primary concern, I've ordered all military shipbuilders to maximize their outputs. This includes all weapon and equipment manufacturers. However even at capacity the Khaak will still outnumber us 2/1, I recommend all new warships be equipped with Jump Drives as standard and with full maxxed weapons and engine upgrades, this would increase our flexibility no end despite the increased cost of production. I've also sent word to Civilian shipbuilders and Weapon smiths such as Handbyte Industries, RustiSwordz Design Bureau, Cartel Incorporated and Avis Imperium, to contribute with weapon designs and vessels of their own to supplement ours. They have responded favourably however as with all business they are concerned about profit, but I do believe they understand the long-term gravity of the situation. i.e. the possibility of defeat, and their profits going bang. Literally.
These corporate companies all have extensive military experience to back up their ship building prowess, and I have asked them to provide internal security to the home sectors helping to keep law and order tight and to provide internal intelligence during the conflict and to help any fast attack raids which I'm sure will come. These squads we've named The Corporate Security Force. This frees up much of the military to actually fighting the war.

Week 13-22
The Khaak have begun a new tactic. As I predicted, massed fighter raids, backed up by destroyers have been launched across the home sectors. Concentrating mainly the pirate sectors east of Argon space and the Paranid Sectors. I must recommend extreme caution. Such attacks are usually a prequel for a larger offensive. Attacking targets well away from their real objectives, and forcing us to commit forces well away from their planned objectives. With the Khaak's jump capability, that could be almost anywhere. The corporate security patrols have come into their own, staving off many fighter raids and providing intelligence.

Week 23-28
The raids have continued in the home sectors, I've now ordered fighter elements and gunboats all with new jump equipment, backed up with destroyer cover to mount armed recon raids into Khaak held sectors in an attempt to find information about their depositions, and to shake them up for a change. I've also increased probe launches and long-range sensor sweeps. However despite a lot of movement and fierce resistance no firm evidence to suggest an offensive is imminent. However Khaak home territory is vast and any fleets could easily hide where we cannot reach.

Week 29
The Khaak offensive has come. Over a hundred ships and 500 fighters in three elements, have warped into Ianamus Zura, Trinity Sanctum and Kingdom End. As usual they struck from all gate directions at once and hit the shipyards and equipment docks. Defence Forces and Corporate Patrols vectored in all at once but were swiftly defeated. The Khaak also launched further attacks in Nyana's hideout and Scale Plate Green and ramped up their fighter assaults in the Paranid Sectors.

Week 30
Refugees have become a problem again, people are fleeing the surrounding sectors away from the combat zones. The Khaak have sealed themselves into Kingdom End deactivating the jump gates by putting a power loop in the warp buffer, effectively sending back any ship who attempts to leave or enter KE. The Argon Titan 'Repulse' and Split Command Carrier 'Honourable Flames' collided when the loop forced them to crash into each other with the loss of 1500 lives as they attempted to counter attack the Khaak.
What reports that have been received indicate that Kingdom End is in flames and Khaak Mass driver weapons have flattened the Boron homeworld. Why they sealed themselves off remains a mystery. The Sectors between Ianamus Zura and Trinity Sanctum are under enormous assault and are expected to fall at anytime. We are rallying as many ships as possible and trying to stop the Khaak from solidifying their positions but we are spread too thinly and our attacks are proving ineffective. Any further attacks and we may have to consider destroying gates to prevent further assault...

End of part one...

Intercepted report from an unknown senior intelligence agency operative and a Star Field Marshal regarding the Khaak / X-Universe War.

Part 2 of 5

Week 31-35
The fall of the southern sectors as well as the loss of the eastern sectors combined with regular Khaak Fighter/Destroyer raids against our supply convoys and manufacturing facilities have given us a huge logistical headache. We have lost well over a half of our total reserve strength. Our front line forces are down by a third and our shipbuilding output has fallen to a critical level. The Argon and Teladi have large quantities of mothballed ships, Argon One's and Mark 1 Titans, Teladi Phoenix and Condor Cruisers mainly. These ships are antiquated, many sold to civilians. Another problem is crewing these vessels. We've lost many good veteran starship crews trying to keep the Khaak at bay. Recruitment isn't a problem nor is training, but we are putting inexperienced crews into underpowered under armed ships straight onto the front lines to plug the gaps in our defences. Despite this morale is still relatively high, many service personnel despite their inexperience are eager to give the Khaak a bloody nose for their troubles.

Week 36
In a surprising move, the main Pirate Clans have offered to suspend their illegal operations and commit their stations and ships to the war effort. Bali Stoebroeker The son of the notorious Tali Stoebroeker Pirate approached High Command with his offer. As head of the biggest pirate clan in the X-Universe, Bali says his Pirate fighters and ships will, instead of raiding supply convoys, will now provide escort. His mobile bases and mobile prefab dockyards will prove very useful in ship construction despite the fact they can only knock out 2 ships at a time instead of 6-8 for a full shipyard. However, their mobility means we can move the shipyards around reducing risk of attack.
I suspect behind this offer is Grimm's Cartel. Grimm still has a lot of clout with the Pirate Clans despite his 'legitimate' status. We suspect that he's offered high tech weapons and equipment in exchange for Pirate cooperation. For the moment investigation into this will have to wait, besides we need the pirates and their ships. We are in a position of beggars can't be choosers at the moment, and all help is gratefully received.

Week 37
Heavy fighting is still raging among the Pirate and Paranid sectors, however the Paranid with Argon support is beginning to repel the continuous Khaak raids.
The sectors between Ianamus Zura and Trinity Sanctum are now under total Khaak control our efforts to wrest control back off the Khaak has proven ineffective. High command have made the decision to switch off the gates between these sectors. Even with jump drives it is impossible to jump out of those blockaded sectors. A lot of people have been left to their own devices under Khaak ministrations. However, in our weakened state High Command have been left with little choice. We'll deal with these guys at a later date.
Argon Prime was hit by a surprise Khaak destroyer raid which almost destroyed the shipyard there. To preserve what ship building capacity we have left the Argon Government have deactivated all the jump gates except for the southern one, which is in turn protected by 20 missile/laser towers and a pair of Titan mk2's. Everything coming into the sector is scanned, and if necessary boarded and searched. The ship yard and trade station will be offline for two weeks for repairs.

Week 38
There has been a lot of communications traffic from the Khaak held sectors into Kingdom End but strangely no communication back out again, This is odd, although ships cannot pass through a locked gate communications are mostly unaffected relying on a much higher waveband to pass from one gate to another. This has only deepened the mystery as to what is going on in KE.
The Split and the Argon have each volunteered 3 corvettes for a long range reconnoitre of Kingdom End. These vessels are ideal for such a mission, smaller than a Capital ship, fast too, yet big enough to carry a big punch. Each can carry a single light scout fighter for fast recon and escort. They are currently replacing their Jump Drives with little used hyperdrive systems and once this has been accomplished then they'll get underway, setting off from Queens Space, which is only 1.5 light years away from KE. However even at top speed it will still take them around two weeks to reach the Boron Homeworld. Once at Kingdom End their orders are to recon the system, avoid trouble and find out what the Khaak are up to then report back via FTL burst transmission.

Week 39-40
The Corvettes have reached Kingdom End and what they had to report was very strange. Approaching the sector from multiple directions using nebulae and asteroids as cover they were surprised to discover the whole sector was deserted. Debris littered the whole area, as was expected, the Boron put up strong resistance but the hulks of their ships and stations revealed their defeat. Nothing living was left, not even the Khaak who should have been swarming around in victory, reinforcing their positions.

It wasn't until a couple of days later when two of the Split Dragon Corvettes checking out the Boron Homeworld for survivors found where the Khaak were. The wreckage of the 30 strong Khaak fleet was found in among what was left of the Boron Homeworld's Orbital Defence grid. The entire fleet was smashed into twisted metal, all except one Khaak destroyer. The Destroyer, floating dead and lifeless on close examination seem to have avoided the fiery doom of its colleagues, however its was totaly without power knocked out it seems by whatever disabled the Jumpgates. Once we have this destroyer secured in a drydock we can begin investigate this situation more thoroughly.
Good news, the Boron homeworld is badly hit but only military targets. Casualties among the civilian population were light and much of its economic infrastructure is still intact. The gates are undamaged; some kind of electro magnetic pulse of enormous and unknown power forced the gates to go into diagnostic mode. Effectively causing the gates to shut down until someone could manually reset their systems from the affected side.

Notes: When we were able to reset the gates and bring reinforcements through I launched an investigation as to why the Khaak were destroyed wholesale like that. The Boron have knocked this up as a victory for themselves and I'm personally content with that for morale's sake. We need a victory right now to boost people's spirits.
Truth is the Boron simply do not have that kind of firepower not even its extensive defence grid. However after analysing the wreckage, the trace energy signature found among the destroyed Khaak vessels match nothing on record, the energy signature is also similar to the EMP surge that knocked out the gates and the Khaak Destroyer. Also what concerns me is the sheer power of these energy weapons. Only the Xenon M0 Class can put out that kind of offensive wattage, and the only one in the X-Universe is currently in a Split Drydock after being damaged helping to retake Scale Plate Green. One other thing whilst I'm on the subject. The intact Khaak Destroyer was deserted when it was found, no crew, nothing. All its fighters and escape pods were still in place. Almost as if the crew was simply scooped out of their ship and taken. I'm keeping this information to ourselves at the moment. The last thing I want people to need right now are demoralizing rumours about the possibility of yet another, even more powerful, new race sharing the X-Universe with us. Things seem to be getting a little crowded now.

Khaak / X-Universe War. Part 3 of 5

Intercepted report from an unknown senior intelligence agency operative and a Star Field Marshal regarding the Khaak / X-Universe War.

Week 41-45
The capture of the Khaak Destroyer is a big coup for us. Scientists and Technicians from all six races and many corporations are lining up to tear the ship into bits to find out how it works. My primary concern though is tactical: there is a wealth of information within its data banks and computer memory files that will be a major shot in the arm for the war effort. However there is a problem, although we have gained access to the Destroyers interior, its internal security system is lethal, two scanner probes and a unit of Argon marines who went in came out in matchbox sized chunks where the laser defence system diced them alive. We were able to access the computer core by hacking into it via remote external modem, trouble was the Khaak method of computer encryption is decades ahead of our own and it will take us years to break it. A Xenon Scientist Android managed to get as far at the central database but a Khaak Defensive Virus downloaded itself into the Xenon Android and made it go on the rampage. Twenty soldiers and techs were killed before the Khaak controlled Xenon was brought down. Research will continue but I don't expect any kind of a breakthrough to come out of it for a long while yet.

Notes: The Destroyer is currently in an isolated Boron maximum-security shipyard under guard by two Boron Destroyers and a contingent of crack Marines. This isn't so much to protect it from the Khaak who may try to reclaim it but one of the other races (most likely Split, Paranid and Teladi who may try to steal it for their own ends, the various races may be cooperating for the moment but I'm sure that will change once the Khaak Threat is over. If we win that is.)

Week 45-47
The Khaak have broken through our defensive forces in Scale Plate Green, destroying the southern gate to the Xenon held sector. The Khaak are now moving methodically northward into Split space. Our forces have pulled back ahead of the Khaak advance and are trying to regroup. Our losses were heavy.

Week 48
In a more sinister twist the Khaak have also launched a large-scale attack in Cloudbase South West, a number of destroyers and a Khaak Carrier attacked the trade station and Goner temple there. CSW was the main sector for refugees displaced due to the war. Over a hundred civilian transports were destroyed including T/TL, Tugs and Liners, along with the Trade Centre. The Goner Temple was also hit but survived. Three Paranid cruisers from the south and an Argon Carrier group from the north responded to the distress signal. They hooked up with the local defence forces and were able to repel the attack. One of the Khaak destroyers, badly damaged fled into Ore Belt where it tried to hide in the asteroid field. The pirate station and its fighter squadrons, luring it into range of the Pirate Bases defence grid, finally destroyed it. The death toll is enormous. Over 100,000 are feared dead and many more wounded. The Goner Temple will be out of action for weeks.

Notes: This is a dangerous turn of events, up until now the Khaak never attacked civilian targets in a first strike, unless it posed a threat. They would crush all resistance before turning on civilians. It is clear they attacked like this to destroy our morale and make us realise that no one is safe at anytime. Governments are demanding that refugee convoys travel under extensive escort, however the Allies simply do not have the military muscle to protect everything. We are having to rely heavily on police/corporate and voluntary patrols and unmanned emplacements for station and sector defence while our primary forces fight the war. On another related point, the Goner Temple's disablement means that advanced tech like Jump Drives and Sensors wont be produced for several weeks while the Goner repair their factories and temple. This means we are now short on vital components for our war effort. All haste is needed to get the Goner back up to speed again, and despite the Goners protests, an extensive defence tower network will surround their temple and sector gates from now on.

Week 50
I've just had a strange report come across my desk. An Argon Titan II Destroyer, the Triumph commanded by a Captain Blix Raul, encountered a lone Khaak warship out on the western fringes of Argon Explored space far away from the front lines. The Triumph radioed its position, requested assistance and moved to intercept the Khaak vessel. Unusually the Khaak ship wasn't moving in fact it had its tractor beam locked onto a corvette sized, disk shaped craft and was slowly hauling it within range of the Khaak's massive, ship mounted, crab claws. Raul could see that the Unidentified Object was trying to escape and he decided to assist. Using a local asteroid filled nebula to mask his approach, Captain Raul closed the Triumph to weapons range and fired with everything the Titan II had. With its shields battered down, the Khaak promptly released the U.O. and came about on its attacker powering up its weapons. Raul realised that the Triumph, with its weapons drained was no match for the angered Khaak warship. In a burst of quick thinking Raul ordered ramming speed and ploughed into the side of the Khaak ship before it could fire. Spinning out of control the Khaak vessel plunged into an asteroid and exploded, shrapnel and debris spraying over the Triumph crippling her.
Disabled, without power and with its structural integrity failing, Captain Raul decided it was time to give the order for the crew to abandon ship and leave the stricken destroyer. As the Captain was preparing to give his final command, the UO reappeared directly ahead of the Triumph. It latched a powerful tractor beam onto the destroyer. The crew onboard were all blinded by the light of the beam, many felt nauseous, some passed out. It only seemed like a minute, but when the beam cut off, the crew was astonished to find themselves and the Triumph, in an isolated corner of the Argon Prime sector. Not a minute, but a day had passed by. Raul realised that the UO had somehow towed them all the way from a frontier sector into the capital centre of the Argon, all practically without being seen.

Notes: The Triumph is in Argon Prime's shipyard for repair and investigation and its crew and Captain Raul are in a hospital on the Trade Station for rest, debriefing and to treat the Triumph's wounded after their encounters.
The Unidentified Object matches that of a vessel that has been seen on a regular basis around the X-Universe, however sightings are few and far between and people generally don't believe those who claim to have seen them. The Goner call these strange ships, 'The Ancients' a supposed group of aeons old creatures that created the first jump gates thousands of years ago. We also been able to confirm that the beam used on the Triumph had an identical signature on the energy patterns found on the destroyed Khaak Vessels in Kingdom End and on the disabled gates there.
One other thing, one of my agents going through Captain Raul's logs found an entry on the last page. It was a picture of the UFO and underneath were two words and three sets of numbers. The words read simply: 'Thank-You.' The three sets of numbers were as follows, a date, a time, (seven days from now) and a set of coordinates, which correspond to a little trafficked area on the far side of Ringo Moon. Captain Raul claimed he never made that entry, and frankly I believe him. I discussed this with my advisors, and if I didn't know better I think our unusual acquaintances were inviting us to go and have a little chat with them.

To be continued.... :D

Comments welcome. :)
