The color of the Borons ships

It could be paint mods, or maybe graphics settings, or possibly even a third party mod or corrupt file. You've not given any information for anyone to work with for us to narrow it down any further than that.

What is your default ship skin?

My guess would be that it's set to saffron.

It needs to be foundation blue to achieve that colour I believe.

The setting is under personal details tab, if I remember correctly.

That's your default paintjob/ship skin. I think it is either "Saffron" or "Foundation Yellow". This is probably Saffron, as I think that was t he one so bright it almost glowed. If you want darker shade of yellow, use "Foundation yellow".

Ship appearance is affected by sector environment. Basically, sector skybox is used to generate reflection, so for anything to look dark, sector has to be dark too. Skybox seems to be somehow affecting ships in in loadout/appearance editor too. So, try going to one of the low sun sectors.

What you have on the screen right now is pretty much how boron ships normally look.

Looking at the game files, it looks like borons use paintmod_0191, which is "Bofu Marinade" and you can't obtain it. It is listed here, and doesn't "quite" look like boron ships, because they're dark by default.

I'd recommend to use "Foundation Green" instead. It looks like this:


Foundation colors in general are dark colors, like... I don't know paint under layer of dark varnish. Or one of those more fancy car paints. You could also try to save and cap a boron ship to see what they're actually using. Chances are their paintjob is not available to the player.

Note that boron ships looks cooler in dark sectors or in the shadows. Here's the same ship from a different angle:
