Tobii Eye Tracker 5 not working - Seems resolved after Tobii driver update and change of connection.

Post by grimlp »

Version and language: 7.0, English
Modified: No
Type of game played: Timelines
Exact nature of the problem: Attempting to utilize tobii eye tracker, but it is not recognized by the game
Any possibly relevant changes you have made: None
Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages: I've watched a video of someone using tobii and there's a whole "tobii" section in the options that I don't see.
Your system specifications in the form of a DXDiag report (see this FAQ entry).

DXDiag: I am unable to insert is, because it's too long.

Hi. The changelog for X4 version 4.00 includes "* Fixed Tobii devices not being detected with recent Tobii drivers.". Given the age of that fix, I wonder if the current Tobii driver version matters in your case. Maybe try updating it if available, or even consider rolling back one version to try to eliminate that as a potential problem.

There was an even earlier X4 version changelog entry that said that if a Tobii device is not detected then the Tobii control options will not appear in-game.

Your link given above is not open for public sharing and so I can't check your driver versions myself.

Good luck.

Thanks, that's one of the worst cases of sound device/driver bloat that I've seen here in a long time and some drivers are quite elderly and/or not WHQL. :D Disable any sound devices and their drivers that you do not use in Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices (right- click on a device in the listing for a disable/enable pop-up). Try to update any sound device drivers that you keep and make sure they are WHQL release versions.

Your Tobii driver is from 2020 and so may be possible to update. That might help.

You seem to be having a few repeated major issues with streamdeck-vtubestudio and Opera, and a couple with Cortana and Explorer; I don't know whether those are significant to any of your gaming issues.

Yeah, I use a lot of virtual audio devices to split my multiple sound sources up for livestreaming. I could probably do to get rid of some of them. I'm curious what sort of issues you're seeing with streamdeck and vtubestudio? Cortana I thought I disabled some time ago. I'll see if I can find a tool to diagnose.

Just look at the Windows Error Reports right at the end of your DxDiag text.

I still think that some change to your Tobii driver is your next step to try, even if just as an elimination test.

I updated the Tobii and switched it from my USB hub to a port on my PC. It seems to be working!
