Hey all,
Fire overrides. Am I right in saying that I cannot set a "Never shoot this Faction, irrespective of class and hostility level"? The reason I ask is as follows:
I have a very critical Defence Platform I've set up in ZYA Space. They're already being attacked on several fronts and this, and other, Defence Platforms of mine are crucial. I like to stand on Defence Platforms (Love observation modules!) and watch the action. The down-side of this is that sometimes the station's turrets hit an ally - i.e. a ZYA ship just wanders right in front of the array of turrets my DP has.
Just now, ZYA had sent a couple of destroyers over to "help" near my DP. One got hit and went hostile (-30). However, none of the Fire Control settings appear to enable me to say "Never shoot at Split (ZYA)". This seems to be a major weakness. Both the fact that an ally will go hostile despite only minor shield damage - barely 10% off the shields, and not all of that from me - and I cannot set my turret to NOT shot FRIENDS even if they are annoyed with me due to their own stupidity.
ZYA are my closest ally - +25 rep - but it's looking like I might have to TURN OFF all my station's turrets and dock any combat ships hoping the aggro goes away.
Just wonder if there's any way around this outside of mods - I'm thinking "Apologise for attack" as a good 3rd party solution. Having 25+ rep with a Faction should allow you an option to say "Split stupid, out of way you get" which is as likely as a Split would come to an actual apology I imagine lol.
Edit: While I can turn off a Station's Turrets and recall any ships, I don't think I can cancel Defence Drones. I suspect I could reduce the Defence Drone count to ZERO and that might work, but they really are quite useful at diluting fire and distracting actual enemies. Some additional control in such situations would be welcome.
How to set a fire override so a Turret will NEVER fire at given faction

I don't think that exists, for whatever reason. I've looked for it before as well... makes perfect sense it should be there IMO. We don't really need a contingency order for betrayal... if I want a faction to not be hostile I should be able to say never to fire on it.

I had to resort to the "Apologise for Attack" mod in the end, else I'd have had to reload a much earlier game. I don't like reloading, I like events to carry on evolving. However, with something like this, it would have ended up with me at WAR with ZYA. I'd recalled all my ships, I'd turned off all the station's guns - it was totally vulnerable to the on-going XEN incursion at this point - but the station's Defence Drones kept on attacking the aggro'd ZYA Destroyer. Due to my high rep, things didn't escalate right away. So I saved my game, downloaded the Apologise for Attack mod and installed it. Loading the save, I comm'd the Ship, said "Sorry (that you flew in front of my station's guns)" and we were best buds again.LameFox wrote: ↑Sat, 26. Considering how easy friendly fire events can occur - and we're not talking the player being trigger happy here - the game needs a robust way to help mitigate this. Apologise for attack works perfectly when the player notices it right away. A "Don't shoot our friends dumbass" Fire Control setting would help prevent further escalation. Also, an alert option to say "hey boss, we've managed to annoy an ally, you might want to get over here and smooth things out" message be helpful.
It's soul-destroying when such an event occurs and isn't noticed for hours - easily done. More so now as many of us are turning off various alerts due to the message lag issue.
