[#2916][7.10 538965] Ticker behavior (slow printing when many messages have accumulated.)

Post by vvvvvvvv »

Since the 7 update ticker behavior changed to a very annoying one. Now, when a lot of messages accumulate, it displays 6 of them, beeps/pings/dings, then begins to fade out. Once it almost fades out, it dings again, displays next six messages and process repeats.

That is ... incorrect behavior occasionally seen in bigger titles, because when a lot of messages accumulate, it'll be pinging for a very long time, worst case scenario - hours. This can happen if the player spent a lot of the time on the map.

Save file that should demonstrate the issue (saved while it was pinging):

Correct behavior:
Ticker should do either immediately jump to the LAST message, OR it should quickly scroll without waiting for fadeout, OR or the ticker messages should be displayed above the map so they won't pile up. This happens with some mission messages. In no event should messages pile up and then SLOWLY presented in small chunks, each with sound. This will just irritate the player.

Reason: Adding Mantis Report number, and clarifying the issue a bit.
