Turret push missions fail when you destroy the station
Destroying the stations destroys all the turrets on it too.
Cargo bay now contains... Terran Valhalla.

Yes it was always like that and by intention. If you want some mild roleplay, consider it as a mission to remove defences for a special forces insertion team to be able to get into the station to gain critical intelligence. If you destroy the station, you have failed the overall mission too.

Well, of course the mission fails if you destroy the station. This is not what you're supposed to do.
The mission briefing states that they want to do some research and want to study the station but have problems with the turrets.
So you have to destroy the turrets but leave the station intact.

The flavor text provided with the missions does vary.
In my case it told me they need to beat back the Xenon to recuperate and recover their forces. From an RP point of view, sending in a pack of destroyers to wreck the station would accomplish that.
If the devs explicitly do not want you to destroy the station it need to be stated in the mission descriptions.
As of now I would assume that the game views turrets being destroyed and turrets disappearing because their station is destroyed as two different events.
Regardless which is true, this means either the descriptions of the mission must be changed, or the way the script checks for destroyed turrets must be updated.
