I'm asking because, lord knows why, I probably need to get out more.. I decided to try and fix my rep with FAF (-30) and the only apparent way to do this is to find mission data leaks and appease the blighters with my unwavering courage and determination. After 3 nights of searching I found and accumalated 12 missions which I hoped would be enough to at least get me down to -25. They were all medium missions plus one hard and blow me if all it did was get me to -29 and there are no more missions!
Am I just wasting my time? Is it not doable? And if it is, will more missions eventually materialise? Because I obviously need around 100 or more. I have taken all the neccessary steps to avoid killing any of their ships, in fact they can't even build any due to hacking FRF stations, so I can't take 1 step forward and 2 steps back but doing 12 missions and only gaining +1 rep seems like I'm fighting a losing battle.

Re: [Question] Do Station Mission Data Leaks Respawn?
Data leaks discovered on stations despawn after 60-90 seconds in low attention. After that, you should be able to head back and discover new leaks; If it's still the same missions, though, then leaving the sector and returning should force different ones to generate.
I did this myself when I was working on getting FAF off my back, and simply cycled between two FRF sectors repeatedly in a loop.
I don't know if the relations at the extremes (+/- 30) are the same or not (I assume they are,) but the way the reputation works is that going from 29 -> 30 takes significantly more "XP" than going from 5 -> 6.
For reference, Rank ~27 is the halfway point in terms of raw XP to Reputation 30. (It's somewhere between 26 and 27, but it's the point where you get the message about additional benefits for a faction, and are then allowed to teleport to their stations, see their orders, and use their paint scheme.) That means going from 27-30 requires the same amount of XP needed to go from 0-27.

Re: [Question] Do Station Mission Data Leaks Respawn?
You have done well so far as the rep level differentials are extreme at the top and bottom levels whilst much closer in the middle levels around neutral. Another way of saying that would be for you to just keep plugging away and the rep levels will increase quicker as you get closer to neutral.
The access to signal leak FAF missions from FRF stations will more depend on your rep with FRF than on your rep with FAF. Getting signal leak FAF missions (out of all the others) depend on the RNG's choices, although opened leak missions including them will generally reappear somewhere else on FRF stations, especially if you leave and re-enter the sector to refresh them.

Thanks guys that helps a lot. I had forgotten about the dynamics of moving from 0 to 5 as apposed to 25 to 30 and I get it now. BUT! And there's always a 'but', I have been floating around doing other stuff in other sectors and periodically revisiting FRF stations to no avail, I shall persevere and keep looking. Wouldn't it be nice if I could just send a scout to look for me and perhaps drop a nav beacon or 2
Oh I nearly forgot, my rep with FRF is +30..

Well I'm back again, another week has passed by and I have completed at least another 30 FAF missions and I'm still stuck at -29. It's becoming an almost impossible task and quite frankly I'm losing the will to live. It would be nice if Rep had a mesurement to the nearest 2 decimal places so I can see I'm actually making a difference, at least then I might find the will to carry on..

I got my rep up with them for the skin once... it was so unpleasant, that now I just start with high rep if I want that skin. I really wish there was like an advanced tier of mission for these factions or something. The basic ones are such horrible drudgery.

You actually can find this out, although I'm sure you meant it being visible in-game. Right now you'll have to do it manually, but it is possible to find out your exact relation level with a bit of effort.
If you navigate to your X4 save files, you can open up the *.xml.gz file in something like 7-zip and extract the raw *.xml file somewhere. You can then open this file in a text editor (I highly recommend something like SublimeText or NPP, because this file is going to be large.)
After that, search for:
Code: Select all
<faction id="player">
The first set should be your starting relations with each faction based on your start scenario.
The second set (the "booster" values) are the ones you are looking for. These will change every time you gain or lose reputation with a faction.
For example, my current test game has values that look like this:
Code: Select all
<booster faction="alliance" relation="0.0198409" time="13784.147"/>
<booster faction="antigone" relation="0.0658961" time="273935.062"/>
<booster faction="argon" relation="0.122764" time="273859.572"/>
<booster faction="hatikvah" relation="0.114531" time="269407.621"/>
<booster faction="holyorder" relation="0.213564" time="273128.482"/>
<booster faction="ministry" relation="0.0562373" time="272113.133"/>
<booster faction="paranid" relation="0.56927" time="273950.459"/>
<booster faction="teladi" relation="0.292071" time="273986.022"/>
<booster faction="fallensplit" relation="-0.0022" time="145730.247"/>
<booster faction="freesplit" relation="0.00845884" time="271579.277"/>
<booster faction="split" relation="0.105158" time="253576.718"/>
<booster faction="pioneers" relation="0.138705" time="273809.175"/>
<booster faction="terran" relation="1" time="273970.665"/>
<booster faction="yaki" relation="0.081601" time="127606.565"/>
<booster faction="loanshark" relation="0.0474587" time="170720.836"/>
<booster faction="scavenger" relation="0.01" time="261887.996"/>
You will be looking for "fallensplit" (the internal name for FAF) and the "relation=" parameter tells you the exact value you currently have with them.
The numbers go from -1 to +1, with -1 being reputation -30, and +1 being reputation level +30.
Remember again that the halfway point was around reputation ~26.5 or so, meaning your current reputation with FAF is probably greater than -1 but still less than -0.5. Once you reach -0.5 you should see you're at around -26 reputation in-game.
Hope it helps.
