PSA: Worker Welfare and Casino research

Post by Good Wizard »

Hello,

since there are numerous posts saying that these missions don't work properly and cause confusion, I'm going to write down my experiences with them here. Both missions are (as far as I know) dependent on the Avarice DLC, so if you don't have it, these missions won't be available either.

Spoiler alert!

The first part starts automatically as soon as you have built a living module at a station. An entry appears in the research area. As soon as you use it, Boso Ta invites you to talk to him. If you visit him, you will meet an NPC there, and after some dialogue it becomes clear that you can build something that the staff likes. The real effect is just that the growth of the station staff is a little better.

You are now sent to an NPC (Drek Wadda) elsewhere, who explains to you that he has plans, but will only give them to you if you help him. He has a problem with racing and wants a fast racing ship. There are clear requirements for speed and maneuvering.

WARNING TRAP: The mission description clearly states that you should DELIVER a ship. and that means that you have to HAND it over. You should pay attention to this, the description is not very clear here, especially when you see what happens next.
When you have finished the ship, you should take it to a certain place. Again - be careful not to use any special ships (Geometric Owl etc.) as you will lose the ship.

Things continue in a somewhat unusual way: As soon as you are there, you are automatically sent to the start of a race, where you have to prove that the delivered ship is good enough. The race - whether you like it or not, It is relatively easy to complete.

As soon as you are finished, you have to land and talk to the NPC again.

WARNING TRAP: As soon as you have landed and get out, the ship and its personnel are taken away!! So if you have a good pilot in it, he is gone. So be sure to hand over the ship - especially if it was not bought new - with a new, inexperienced pilot. This is a problem with the mission in itself, as you are supposed to bring a good (2-star) pilot straight after - and if he was already in the ship, you have to get a new pilot and loose the pilot in the ship.

As soon as you have the pilot, you can now send him to the station with 'work elsewhere', just like with other personnel procurement missions.

The NPC complained that they keep losing races. That's why you supplied the ship and the pilot. Now the NPC (Drek Wadda) follows some officials from the races and calls to say that the two ships have split up and that you should now help find the other ship.

You are sent somewhere else and find a target there. When you get closer, Boso Ta intervenes and explains that he has found a 'stable anomaly'. When you have found the anomaly, the NPC calls for help, his ship has been damaged. Boso Ta thinks that this is probably the other end of the anomaly. So you fly through the anomaly (you have to be quick when flying through it, so boost or go through in travel mode) and arrive in another system. There you find the NPC Drek Wadda in his ship, surrounded by mines. The mines have to be destroyed, this works just like similar missions where you have to free ships from minefields.

The NPC then says that he is now safe again - but suspects that such anomalies were used to create shortcuts in races for the participants themselves. Boso Ta intervenes and says that the whole thing is dangerous - especially because he does not know how such stable anomalies are created. He seems a bit annoyed because someone seems to know more :)

So he suggests that you should simply use the anomaly several times, back and forth, as this should cause it to collapse. That is exactly what you do by using the anomaly, back and forth. As soon as the anomaly has been eliminated, the mission changes and you are sent to a station where you meet the NPC (Drek Wadda) again. When you arrive, you see a short scene with a race, but one of the participants disappears. Apparently he used the now 'normal' anomaly, and it was no longer a shortcut...

Drek Wadda is satisfied. That's it, and the NPC hands over the blueprint.

You can now add the worker welfare module. It looks like a small casino.

The whole thing only continues once you've actually built the module somewhere.

As soon as the first module is finished, the second part, Casino, appears. When you activate it, Boso Ta explains that you should do research into the leisure activities of the races.

Unfortunately, this part is explained terribly and you hardly get a sense of what you are doing.

The mission also seems to have some kind of 'trigger problem'. You start by finding a Terran living module. (If you have the DLC, otherwise it probably won't work). The stupid thing is that you can scan the living modules at various stations for a long time, but it doesn't trigger the mission, i.e. you don't find a data leak. There are numerous posts about this. It didn't really work for me either. You have to fly to several stations, but it's unclear what exactly triggers it. You can also use PIO stations, as these also have the Terran ring-shaped living module.

Note: If you haven't done it yet, you should take a close look at these TER living modules, inside and out. You can't see it from far away, but they are EXTREMELY detailed and lovingly made! Outside you can see football fields and sports fields, inside there's even a train that goes in circles!

Now there is a task like this for all races, which sometimes seems to be random. The split is only available if you have the DLC.

The tasks work like this:
Option 1: Fly to the living module, scan a data leak (this is specially marked if it works!) and then land on the station and go to the bar. There are several NPCs there, none of which are marked, and the task is to speak to <RACE>, for example to speak to the Argon. Since the bar is full of them, it's unclear, and there's a trigger problem straight away. You can definitely talk to EVERYONE, they only have standard dialogue and nothing happens. If you leave the bar, the mission switches to 'Go to the bar'. After a bit of back and forth, it works - you upload something. This was never explained, it is apparently observation software. Once you have done that, you are done with this races part.

Option 2: You scan a data leak (marked) and 'update' the software. You don't have to do anything else.

Option 3: You find a data leak, but before you can approach and scan, the mission switches to 'Go to the bar'. Everything else is the same as option 1.

As soon as you have completed all sections (one for each race), the job is done. You now have to visit Boso Ta, who will explain what he has found out. You should ABSOLUTELY listen to ALL dialogue branches here, it is really well done, each race has its own special preferences when it comes to spending their free time. This is not only the conclusion, but also the climax of the mission.
In general, this series of missions could do with some text improvements and a check, because many fail because certain things simply don't happen for a while, but it's unclear whether that's how it's supposed to be or whether it's a problem.
The failure with the ship in the first part is particularly bad because of the pilot. I didn't try to land after the race with a good pilot and have the PILOT land. Strictly speaking, that could be accepted, but I don't think so.

Another point of criticism: the first well-being module has the disadvantage that it can ONLY be built 'Universal' (and possibly also 'Closed Loop'). It is therefore only suitable to a limited extent for Terran stations. I had thought that after the second part and the various race parts, you would get modules that work depending on the race - you researched it specifically for that - but unfortunately you only get a casino module, which you can't build with the 'Terran' method. The modules all look the same. This means that you have to bring the stuff in for Terran stations in the TER or PIO area.

Remark: I did this post several days in German over in the German spoiler forums. I was too lazy to retype it in English - so I just tried Google translate: This thing has become very good now, the were only very few places where I needed to edit. Despite that there may be passages I overlooked - please be patient.
