I'm trying to assign a subordinate carrier to a destroyer fleet.
Setting the carrier to Defend (Fighters on Bombard) makes the carrier launch fighters when an enemy L/XL ship comes close.
BUT the carrier starts ramming itself onto stations that the destroyer fleet is attacking.
Setting the carrier to Bombardment (Fighters on Bombard) makes the carriers and fighters ignore everything. The carriers will shoot anything in turret range, though.
How do I assign the carrier to the fleet? I can't have the carrier be on its own fleet, it's piggybacking off auxiliary fleets on the destroyer fleet.
Protect a destroyer using a carrier with bombers, without carrier attacking stations?

Have you tried making carrier the leader of the fleet with destroyer subordinates?

In the past I've had a carrier set to follow, and its fighters set to intercept and that worked well for me.

I've used 3+ "fleets". One is Carrier. Another is Aux. The rest are destroyer fleet(s).
The last is I, myself, and me as lone ship that meddles in as necessary. Mostly to draw enemy fire.
