Am i the only one that thinks the ability to 'reduce' (not eliminate) your ships signature to enemy's would have made a worthy gameplay addition to the game.
Example. I was crystal mining in my small ship, in an unclaimed sector with the odd Hostile about, every so often one would appear on my Radar and sound the warning. ,would love to be able to reduce speed or cut the engines and just float through the asteroid field undetected for some tense immersion.
It could be so simple. The enemy has 40k Radar range:
1. Slowing down can reduce this to 30k
2. Cutting engines could reduce this to 20k
3. Certain ships are more stealthy than others..
Would add a whole load of additional gameplay features without screwing the balance of the game.

There’s a hull mod that does that.

Yes, it doesn't actually reduce or camouflage your engine heat signature etc, it just reduces the range at which enemies can detect you on radar. It also works the other way when pirates etc with that mod will disappear off your radar at a shorter range than usual.
There's another similar sounding hull mod but that one just conceals illegal wares in your cargo from authority scans - don't get the two different hull mods mixed up.
I think your suggestions, while interesting, would be quite complex to code and also would be computationally intensive since they would have to constantly be tested for and apply to every ship in high attention to you (presumably going both ways too).
