Ventures question

Post by klock_x4 »

I see a lot of historical references to Ventures being disabled. I've tried searching the forums but it's not clear to me.

Currently, it's the only reason I'm not trying to mod my save. But I am unsure the current status of Ventures.

I've logged in the game using my Egosoft account, I can see the leaderboard on Timelines missions. I am not able to download the Ventures DLC (tried doing the auto update, restart game, etc).

Beyond that, are they disabled or not? I see some chatter in the 7.10 beta forum about Ventures, but I'm still not sure if they are alive or not.

Thanks in advance for any clarifications.

Just to say I have the same question - have got as far as:

"You need to enable the Venture Extension in order to be able to access some exclusive Venture Inventory objects"
Installed - No
Version - ---
Extension Status - ---

Check for Downloads - Automatic Downloads

Cant seem to figure out what to do next.

Edit - after turning off "Steam Workshop Downloads" in extensions rebooting the game, then turning it back on and rebooting the game again. it is now showing Ventures as installed

Current/next ventures are still being worked on by the devs and are not yet live. There are means to access some already-awarded in-game assets from ventures and that is likely the online content you often see talked about. There was a ventures gameplay (Multiverse Team Seasons) public beta testing a short while back but that has finished for now. Further relevant news from the devs will come eventually in announcements in here and in the Egosoft News bulletins.

It's been a while since I posted here. I hope this thread is not too old for a bump.

Is there somewhere I can read about what Ventures is exactly? I found this option in the menus, but I have no idea what I enabled. Thanks.

Original Ventures has effectively ended. It was a limited ability to send non-interactively a ship of yours off into other players' games (where allowed and online) and to gain some advantages or rewards if it came back to you. Likewise, if enabled and online, you might see others' Venture ships visit your game and you could interact in a limited way (or not) with those AI-controlled ships in your game.

There was later a limited private beta of a different online Venture format called Multiverse Team Seasons that could also involve players sending ships to other games, but that beta has also ended.

Future Ventures/Multiverse format is unknown and we await further news from the devs about it (timeframe unknown too).

Currently, inclusion of previous version Ventures structures in your stations and templates is not advised. There is a method for registering and linking your X4 game just to recover rewards that you had previously received or been entitled to from prior Ventures or from game bundle purchase.

Just want to add that if you purchased the community of planets collector's edition or otherwise acquired the collector's edition bonus content, then there's a bonus "Yasur" (S class) ship that you can obtain in-game via the Venture Inventory tab. This only requires you to have purchased the collector edition content and registered online. No DLC or beta modifications are required. (Players without the collector's edition were previously able to acquire the ship by participating in the aforementioned Venture betas.) The ship itself has the novelty of being hyper fast and is limited to one instance per game universe. However, players are allowed to freely replace any lost ship once every 24 hours (real world). This and some paint modifications are the only currently active "perks" that new players can receive by enabling Venture Extensions and completing the online registration process.

I want to add that I enjoyed ventures a lot in the past and this before the remake. Sadly it seems if they do any kind of tests, etc it's after a major release and not at said major release is this correct?

All I can say is I enjoy the idea, and feature just a little fun on the side, but I'm really sad it's been dead in the water for a long time now. I'm at the point where I'm starting to hate it just because I wish I never got to enjoy to to begin with LOL.

Maybe next time when you add a neat feature you will keep the old one in till your ready to fully implement a new version. I know it's a pet project, but it's just constructive criticism from someone who misses ventures.

I think in Ventures there may be a server involved in keeping your "out on a venture" ships alive etcetera in other players multiverses.
So while Ventures is still in development, the servers function would also need updating with progress, so they cant really keep it alive.

.. Not entirely sure there is a server involved though. I cant recall the sketchy detail of how it all worked, I remember something about simple text based messages being relayed between online games instances. I hope there is not a server involved though because like any other kind of multi-player games any supporting servers are dependant upon the company keeping the server going, and for various reasons eventually they die so the whole thing would be a limited lifespan if a server is required. Whereas traditionally all X series games have been fully playable single player games, even up to now.

The Ventures Extension is certainly still pinging Egosoft for any updates every time the game starts to load (there is a pop up box with an update progress bar before the game loads, saying Ventures extension is updating) .. So I am staying mod free waiting for its return, which I find weird as I dont really like multiplayer games :), the way Egosoft made this though I did enjoy and found acceptable during the two times we had a beta testing of it. First time I liked being able to get rare paint jobs and modding resources, second time I didnt like the reduced opportunity to get those, but did appreciate the design direction Ventures was taking. Looking forward to the next appearance (whenever that may be).

I would also imagine that with each new game update and additional DLCs, Ventures also has to be adapted in the background to take into account what sectors are currently available that Venture ships in someone elses game can appear in. The new flight model in 7.5 Betas currently will also affect Venture ships, and those will also have to be adapted to the changes and balancing = All development will have a knock on effect to the delay to Ventures appearing again.
