Lazy bastard engineers on my Kukri

Post by Koschei »

Kinda newbish here: I bought two engineers for my starter ship Kukri. I heard rumors they would fix my hull and stuff. They don't seem to do nothing actually. Do I need to do something else, or do they only work when the captain is an AI, or what is the deal with engineers on ships?

They do, but it is slow. Higher ranked service crews will repair ships relatively faster though

Only medium ships and upward self-repair. For a Kukri just use the repair laser on your space suit or repair at a wharf.

Ah I see. So what's the point of being able to have two engineer slots on this tiny ship then? Two marines I would get, for boarding, but not engineers.

Thank you all for your responses once again.

On S ships, I think they are largely passengers. Although they do contribute to the "average skill" on the ship. Not entirely sure if that does anything.

Yes, some taxi missions that deliver to capitals rather than stations will need an S ship to complete them - as do some plot missions that need somebody moved to a capital.

Those extra slots, which can be for both marines and engineers, btw, are very useful when you make another S or M ship bail. You then tell one of your passengers to go over to the new ship and be its pilot.
Also, their morale will increase as you fly around, giving them experience. Morale is important for every skill, be it marine, engineer or pilot.
