Woden Issue - Does not function in OOS combat

Post by BrigandPhantos77 »

So I encountered an issue using the Woden for OOS combat. Opponent was a Xenon K. My game has decided to flood them everywhere. I tried using a Woden to stop one heading for one of my claimed sectors. The Woden did not get a single attack turn. When in system, the weapons on it attack as designed, but OOS they do not. I watched my Woden get popped and the K didn't have a single hit to it. When tested in system, I had no problems popping the K. (Fully charged PSP stripped its shields in one hit).

Loadout (All slots filled)
Front - EMPC (Set attack all enemies)
Left and Right - PSP both sides (Set attack capital ships)
Up - M/AM (Set attack all enemies)
Down - M/AM (Set attack all enemies)
Back - M/AM (Set attack all enemies)

This is the first time I actually tried using it like this.

No fighters were employed, all set to Defense in Carrier Management.

Edit*** If there is anyone else that uses them who could confirm, would thank yea kindly. :D

Tested using the same settings as you and the Woden worked without issue. As far as I know, turret settings have no effect out-of-system.

The only things I can think of which might cause such an issue:

I think Xenon ships have a hard coded cheat which lets them do far more damage than they should OOS. If the Xenon's initial damage triggered the Woden's 'emergency jump', it won't fight back, but only sit there waiting to jump. If the emergency jump happens to target a gate which a TM or larger just passed through, it will not jump for a veeeery long time (to prevent capital collisions on other side).

If the ships 'attacked response' is set to 'ignore', and it's not running an attack order, I think it just sits there and gets destroyed.

I have seen carriers sit idle if they're waiting for a ship to dock. Enemy carriers whose ships bail will sometimes get stuck waiting permanently.

Sorry, this is a bit long winded. I have to get this out. :D

They are definitely hard coded to do significantly more. I had 2 Osaka Destroyers lose a fight to 1 J.

They stripped it's shields quick, then the damage just simply stopped. No hull damage at all. Then both destroyers lost all shields, and when to 15% hull before they each jumped out.

When I used the Woden, it did 0 damage to the K it was fighting. It simply got annihilated. I performed the same battle a second time, this time in control of the Woden... I took the shields out with one fully charged volley PSP. Then began peppering it. It went kaboom as it got to the end of my shields. Took a small percentage to my hull, but was able to repair it with a Cormorant. That was manageable.

I retaliated by annihilating everything in the sector north of Black Hole Sun. Used 3 Marlins to do it. That was fun... :D

I discovered the Marauder Corvette has the same issue as the Dragon. When fighting anything, it does no damage in OOS. Lost a fight to M5's without hurting them even slightly. Weapons.... 8 HEPT in front, Left and Right PBC (Beam), rear HEPT.

I know this is going to count as bitching a bit, but they made crap wayy too aggressive. On my playthrough, as soon as you pop one group it almost immediately respawns in another spot within a few minutes. (At 10x Seta speed anyway). It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have it set with Xenon doing soo much extra than you. But given the constant roaming K's and I's in my game, it's way too lopsided. And they are mostly targeting my claimed sectors.

I started a fresh playthrough and got lucky with several sectors.
Spoiler
Show
Tears of Greed beta, Midnight Star beta, Harmony of Perpetuity beta, Unseen Domain beta. Choose to leave the rest to NPC factions.

And the J's that keep attacking those, pop right in at the gates just outside the beta's. Not to mention the constant waves of LX, M, M, N, N that keep spawning right there. At least the I's and K's start from a Xenon sector and roam. They sometimes get stopped by the Rapid Response fleets, but the Military version capitals, completely ignore the Xenon fleets. Too busy pissing on other factions and enemies in those space. (Argon and Teladi at war in my game).

Saw a Titan keep fighting a Gannet in New Income. Titan attacks Split ships, Teladi respond with RRS Gannet. Rinse and repeat. Oh, and Boron Guppy likes to dock at the Military Outpost in Pontifex Seclusion to get energy cells. And the Paranid ignore it. :gruebel:

So I have a preference for the Terran ships. I have to ask this... (mainly rhetorical) Is it a combination of Terran ships being completely nerfed beyond any meaningful use that I am dealing with here? And since when do Xenon ships spawn in Oort Cloud. :gruebel:

Anyway, tirade complete. Feel free to tear apart / comment as you please.
