So I have the Dragon M ship and I love it but one thing that super bothers me is that whenever I'm going forward really fast and I then stop the engines it takes like 5 long seconds before I even stop.... by then I've over shot my target by loads... meanwhile none of the other corvettes do this...
So my question is what engine and hull mods and other mods should I use so that my Dragon stops almost instantly or as quick as possible.
Also the Dragon feels super heavy when turning and turns really slow...
For a fast ship it don't feel nimble it feels cumbersome and I wish to correct that with mods I just not sure how...
I don't care for speed I just want one that's agile good at turning and stopping and I'm happy.
Thanks.

The ships in this game have very different mass you wouldn't necessarily expect from looking at them. I don't remember the exact value but I think the Dragon is one of the heavier ones. Split ships in general trend fast-ish but heavy. There is a lighter Dragon Raider though, which is a lot weaker in hull points, but more manoeuvrable if you want something that flies like a heavy fighter. And since M ships don't have much durability anyway, it's probably the better ship in player hands.
As for the default Dragon though, I guess you'd want to kill some BUC ships for high end hull mod parts and make it lighter. Though sadly this might not stop the drifting.

Re: Need help modding my Dragon
Basic green mods perhaps..
Engine: Anchor
Shields: Buckler
Turrets: Slasher
Chassis: Polisher
This might save a second or two when you slam on the brakes from travel drive and make the ship feel a little more nimble with a bit more zip in combat. You won't gain much more with Enhanced blue mods, the Exceptional Vikas engine and Nanotube chassis mods would be ideal for your needs or maybe consider a different ship like the Nemesis.

While a relatively minor factor, having cargo gives the ship more inertia too. Try not to carry more than you need to at that time.

That is very noticeable on fully loaded Split Miner. Like walking on slippery ice.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Thu, 18. Jul 24, 12:45 While a relatively minor factor, having cargo gives the ship more inertia too. Try not to carry more than you need to at that time.
Do different wares have different density? I don't carry any cargo intentionally (except to lure pirates), but tend to scoop the bay full accidentally. Is 340 cubic metres of this more mass than of that?
My Dragon Raider has cruise speed 951 m/s and travel speed 6704 m/s. Hitting brakes from travel takes about 25 km (I don't look at clock). It has (purple) Nanotube on hull and (green) Reaver on engine. The Nanotube does reduce mass, but also drag. I presume that less drag means lower deceleration.

The type of engine you use also has an influence on this behavior.
Terran Combat engines have superior travel release times (in addition to their superior attack times,) so you do come to a stop more quickly than with other engines. That said, M ships simply will "slide" a bit even with them because they are just bigger; that's just the downside of flying them. I think with the Terran Combat drive, my Katana still takes around 10km or so to come to a stop out of travel drive.
This is one of the reasons I've really started enjoying flying the Moreya recently. I used to almost exclusively fly in the Katana, but the Moreya (also with a Terran Combat drive) makes exploration and station scanning so much easier since they stop virtually instantly (like inside 3km) from 9000+ m/s travel drive. That's the big advantage of flying a fighter if you want to start/stop quickly, and often. If i'm going into a bigger battle, then I'll swap back to the Katana.
