Have a look at "Fleet 3", comprised of an H and two Heron E trade ships. I was planning to send this convoy out to Boron space to sell some hull parts, and have the H protect the traders along the way in case they attract any SCA destroyers. I set the traders to "defend" so they would make use of a formation, which I set to "V shape", thinking this would keep them safely near and slightly behind the destroyer (in "follow" it was leaving them behind).

No such luck however. Every time I issue a move order within a system it just leaves them behind, doesn't seem to care they exist at all. The traders take a VERY long time to respond to its movement, as if they're not even registering that it *has* moved, and when they finally try to catch up, they drop out of travel drive far behind it and sometimes also stop flying long before they get to it. The H does wait for them after passing a gate, but that seems to be the only time that it will, and even then, the space between them is much larger than I'd like. Then it just flies off again and leaves them to traverse to the next gate alone.

Needless to say as far as keeping them safe from pirates goes, or anything else they can't fight on their own, this is wholly useless.
