Can I manually dock with an Aux ship?

Post by Caesar999 »

Large ships take a very long time to "dock" with the aux ships. I was hoping I could pilot it better/faster but I'm told only S/M ships can dock. Is it not possible to perform this manually?

you can't manually dock with the build storage either. I don't know why, I would have expected it to be exactly the same code/game bits as docking with a pier (and thus use the same AI pathfinding as docking with a pier that works really well)

NPC docking with these things is bad anyway, my L class ships take forever to slowly circle the aux. Perhaps if they can't be treated as a mobile pier, they should work much more like building a station - build/repair/cargo drones go out with the necessary to update the target ship once it gets to a set distance and stops. Then the devs can stop trying to make the AI pathfinding work as its obvious its a almost impossibly difficult problem.

You can dock with build storage, you just have to fly into the right position and it will generate a docking request like it does if you get too close to a landing pad.

I have never tried this with an aux ship, but if you can't request docking normally maybe it's worth a shot.

I did try this - with a M class ship, I flew into the area I saw other M class ships stop at, but nothing happened. I might try again to see if its really sensitive to positioning. Never tried with a L class ship though.
