I seem to recall that we could pre-order X2 from the website prior to publishing.
How about Egosoft do this again? Whether or not that have a publisher, the price will be pretty standard anyway. So, how many people would commit and pre-pay now in return for a fairly accurate release date announcement combined with some game updates?

I think that I disagree with what you are saying, we KNOW that X2 is not so far away from release. The Doctor wrote:I wouldn't make any form of commitment financially, unless I new for sure that the game was goingg to come out. Look at Elite IV, what would you get for making a commitment to that? Not a lot.
I would certainly place an order on the Egosoft website for the game.
Remember that your credit/debit card would not be charged until the game is actually despached.
Even not knowing the final price I would still place an order. And who knows you may even get it a couple of days early. I got X-Tension on the day before the official release by ordering direct from ES.

I am all for pre-ordering the product, but paying for news.... it's just a text in a bitstream. If we had some sought of input, exclusives etc, maybe even Auto selection for Open Beta for X2OL and if there is an open Beta for X2 auto selection for that. Given that we have allready made a commitment to purchasing the product before release we should have a little control of how the game is looks and feels. Especially if we are putting up even before release date has been announced.

I'll keep my cash and keep myself occupied till it appears. If I was that desperate for news I'd go level 5.
Knock knock. Who's there? Zerg Rushhhhhhhhhhhh!

When will people realise its not uptp ES to sort a release date. Their first priority should be to secure a publisher who will then sort out shipping and release dates. No release date can/will be posted until a publisher is sorted out.
Even if you paid them for a release date, it would almost certainly be changed once a publisher came on board.
