Bug?; station budget/storage allocation

Post by dd2331d »

Hey,

This is regarding the station account minimum budget the manager is trying to get.
I would have attached images but the basic jist of it is the automatic storage allocation *somehow* uses up LESS storage space and is cheaper than manually storing WAY less than what he's trying to store.
For example, the manager was trying to store 166k helium, fair right? but for some reason it's 4.3m cheaper than me lowering it down to 50,000 units instead??
At first I thought, maybe because I'm automatically lowering the number by more than half, the manager would use up the space I just freed up to increase the automatic storage allocation for other modules, right? no...
I lowered every single resource that was automatically allocated by half yet for some reason now the manager wants twice the budget and I also end up using more storage space.
So either the managers that you employ have some sort of dimensional compression storage or I'm just missing something.

If it isn't a bug then it's great, I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong then because I'm not too big a fan of paying twice more for storing half as much as the manager does.

Regards,

Quick edit;

Image of the manager automatically allocating 166k helium and there being 1,00km³ Liquid storage to spare and the budget being at 17,199k;

Image of me turning off automatic storage allocation, setting it to the same quantity and liquid storage to spare going down to 4m³ plus the budget rising to 22,655k;

When you manually lower the storage for a ware, any automatically set storages for other wares of that type will increase as you guessed. If those overall are more expensive wares than the one you lowered, then your predicted budget will increase. You say that you have prevented/accounted for this but maybe you missed one - I guess it would have to be a liquid/gas as that's what category storage Helium uses.

The other thing is that if you manually lower the storage of a ware used in production below what the manager thinks you need to hold for unbroken production, then the manager might issue buy offers for more to NPCs at a price above what the player usually provides. Those offers would need extra funding.

Well, if manually adjusting the max amount of stored resources causes the manager to think he needs to buy twice or thrice as frequent, which in turn will double or triple the budget due to the frequency of purchases it needs to do. it can be easily fixed by, if we have assigned miners that get those resources for free and the stations we assigned them to only buy them from our faction as in it won't cost anything , this would allow us to manually adjust our resources
without the manager losing his mind over needing to buy even more for continuous production. Basically, if our stations only buy from the miners assigned to it, and can ONLY buy from said miners, not ohter factions, it shouldn't be accounted for in the budget itself. Therefore we wouldn't need to have stations with multi-million budgets.
I'm not a programmer so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement such a thing, as in, "I get my resources for free, don't need to have a 5m budget to fill these storages up!" type of thing but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate this.
