[6.20] Ship Stuck "Undocking" In Empty Space

I have a ship that's stuck with "critical" order "Undock" in the middle of space. It was not docked at a station or in the middle of undocking. I don't remember the exact sequence that caused this but the ship was previously on Repeat Orders when I changed the default behaviour to Hold Position, probably deleted the existing orders, and then gave it an order to change equipment at a wharf. It was in the middle of flying in space and at some point this Undock order popped up at the top of the order queue. I may or may not have given additional orders or deleted some.

I cannot remove the Undock order, cannot sit in the pilot chair, "Delete All" orders doesn't work and can't fire the captain (the option is grayed out).

I managed to fix this issue by opening the save XML, going to the ship node and deleting everything between the <orders></orders> tags below it. However this results in a save that is marked as *modified*, which I would like to avoid.
