Switching from Mouse Input to Gamepad stops Ship engines no matter what button I press. 6.20 new Installation

Post by xavii »

New to X4. I tried to set the controls the way I'm used to from X3. Now my problem: I use the gamepad and mouse alternately. For example when I select objects or if I want to aim more precisely or when I'm on the map, I use the mouse. But most of the time I use the Gamepas to steer the ship. Every time I switch from mouse to gamepad ship comes to a standstill. Is this intended behaviour? I've tried all sorts of settings, but I just can't figure out the problem or find a solution. The gamepad is wired and is recognized as an XBOX controller.

The ship stopping when you open the map is controllable via a setting. This is unrelated to any issue you might be having with the controller. We're not going to be able to help you with that without more information. See the sticky thread at the top of the forum for a list of the things we'd need. In your case, we'd also need to know the specific controller model you're using, and perhaps also to see your config.xml file to see how you've mapped it.

Version 6.20 English language

The Problem appears independend from the game start scenario and it appears all the time no matter what button I press when I switch from mouse to the cotroller. Problem appears with no mods installed. Game is modified, but the issue was already present in the vanilla game after the first installation.

Gamepad is the PowerA Controller for Xbox Series with standart usb cable.

What do you mean exactly when you say "when I switch from mouse to the controller"?

Let's say you're flying around, using mouse and keyboard. Everything works OK.

Then, you pick up the controller in your hand... and press a direction on the dpad.

Does your ship come to a halt?

I use a belkin nos52 gamepad instead of a keyboard, along with a mouse.

Yes, this is exactly what happens, the ship shuts of the engines and comes to a halt. Mouse and Keyboard is just fine. Controller and Keyboard also no problems.

Two checks (may not be related but worth a shot).

Check that you don't have oversize deadzones on the controller such that when you activate it, the first thing the game sees is 'stop'.

Check that your controller does not have an analogue output mapped to a game digital input, or vice versa. This might mean that something expecting or providing a range of values is seeing just an on or off instead.

Try remapping the full stop keybind to something else... I have it as just the letter x. I don't remember what the default was.

Thank you, but so far nothing worked. The controller had digital outputs mapped to a analouge input, changing that didn't help. Changing the deadzone didn't help either. In other games or playing x3 I have absolutely no problems with that controller.

Thank you. I unmapped the full stop keybind completely (both, keyboard and controller). I also tried unmapping everything that could change the speed on the controller without success.

Try toggling the setting you use for gamepad mode, in case it helps.

I started the game in gamepad mode because it sounded right if I use the gamepad in the first place. But in this mode I have a latency of approx. half a second untill the analogous input of the controller reacts when changing from mouse input to the controller. Digital input is instantly and in both cases the ship halts after the engines shut off, same as in controller mode off.

I tried al lot of things to get this to work and still wish that it works some day. I love the game and love playing it with a gamepad, but the ship stopping after every little mouseinput keeps frustrating me.

Another thing I tried without success was to deactivate the X-Box and Steam-software running in the backround. I really like my controller, because of its precision and don't want to buy a different one. With cheap controllers I often had problems with the deadzone. Never had issues with this one except using it with X4.

Should I consider this as a bug and report it, or is this even intended behavoir what I can't believe? Last thing I could try is to delete and reinstall the game, but honestly I have no hope that this helps.

I was thinking about completely unmapping the controller in X4 Setting and remapping it in XPADDER, but if I remember correctly, you can't map the analog input as analog output, only digital.

I'm not a native speaker in english and hope I can express my concerns in a clear and understandable way.

I bought a new cotroller (new original x-box controller) but the problem persists. The ship comes to a halt when I first use mouse input, like selecting a target or steering, and then use the controller input. I believe something is wrong in my settings of the gamepad but I can not figure it out.

Here is a save file of the combat scenario. Try for example steering an a ship wich is at full speed with the mousse, then change to gampad Input and the ship will kill instantly its engines.

Still hope someone has a solution or a hint what I could try. If I find no solution in the tech support, I `ll try the main forum.
