[6.20] Steam Download (Vanilla) English - Signal Leaks Not Working - Resolved in mode, but still one issue.

Post by Drylce »

I'm playing a Custom game start (Budgeted) with a fresh download. I had previously played the game before Tides of Avarice came out but stopped for a while. After a fresh install, I deleted my old saves and started a new custom game. Less than an hour in I noted that EMP signal leaks aren't working properly in my game.

First: The signal leaks are properly generated (I first wasn't sure if they were being generated elsewhere on the module).
Second: Visually the signal leaks are wrong - the "structure" is present along with the faint "haze" in the middle of the signal leak however the red light and electrical effects are not present.
Third: No matter how close I get to the signal leak it won't "decode" and give me the blueprints.
Fourth: I'm unsure how close I'm getting without the rest of the "signal leak" being visible but I appear to be hitting an invisible wall before the point I remember scanning the leak.

Unfortunately I'm unsure of how to attach a DxDiag and the link to the vulcaninfo and I'm unsure about putting those on a public forum.

Instructions on how to add your DXDiag and Vulkaninfo are in the very first thread at the top of the forum. The only even remotely identifying information in the DXDiag is the machine name near the top, and you're welcome to edit that out if you prefer to as it doesn't affect the usefulness of the rest of the data.

You've not indicated whether or not your game is modified, or whether it was modified when you previously played it and therefore whether there could be any "leftovers" from that. Aside from that, all I can suggest without the other information is to perform a file verification using the Steam client to make sure that your installation isn't corrupted.

I'm sure this isn't the case and you have checked properly, but your 2nd and 3rd points could be through not being in scan mode. On the assumption it is not that, moving on ...

On your 2nd point, sometimes the scan mode (ship or suit) doesn't graphically implement properly on mode selection (especially just after reloading a save). This graphical issue does not affect the scanning though. Aborting and restarting scan mode usually brings up the proper leak graphical effects.

On your 3rd and 4th points, yes that happens sometimes. The best way to get 4 clearly visible leaks is to place the EMP in the centre of a large flat area with few surface variations. Unfortunately, that also seems to be where the suit bouncing off an invisible barrier before getting close enough to scan is most likely to happen too. There are many reports of this for such as the Apotheosis and also other non-plot station module EMP scans.

And now I feel silly because I forgot scan mode was even a thing. Thank you Alan Phipps for the solution. The "invisible wall" was a thing but I simply moved to another part of the station and it worked.
