Custom Game start via old save conversion tool?

Just spent hours making a copy of my old game save in the custom game start menu.... all for it to break and not be importable anymore? IDK...
Is there a way, tool, software, something in which I can use my old game save (all my ships, stations, etc) and convert that into a new custom game start?
