she had boyfriend named Peter, and Johnny Lee was her best pal.
Coming home from TSSP, down in Home of Light
she found a lone message blinking in the dark lonely night.

Yuki pressed "Play" and there was Johnny Lee on the screen,
she wondered what ghost poor ol' Johnny had seen.
She listened to his words and her hopes fell away.
She cried herself to sleep that night, and through the next day.

"Yuki," Johnny's message said, "I've a confession to make."
"I loved you since we first met, but you were never mine to take
"I know Pete's a good ole boy, the one in your heart"
"so I'm gettin out of here and making a new start."

"So I joined the Argon navy, to get away for a while,"
"To clear out my head, and bring back my smile."
"I hate to leave like this, it tear me up inside."
"In the end, I guess the cowards find a place to hide."

Well there was no replying to Johnny; they'd already left berth,
he and the crew of the "Echo of Earth",
A sleek Argon corvette, armed and deployed that day.
She pulled herself to the viewport and wished he would stay.

Johnny sent letters, and he told such good stories
He told of dirty pirate bars, his losses and glories.
She smiled when she saw him and wished he were here
She missed him even more when Peter came near.

Then the viewscreen was quiet for weeks on end,
she scrambled through the bulletins for word of her friend.
The "Echo Of Earth" was not lost to space,
and worry added months and years to her face.

Yuki was making plans and contacting stores
When a old man in a uniform came to her door.
Dressed like the navy, with corners pressed and neat,
he stepped into her room and took her offered seat.

"Young lady," he smiled, "I've met many a man,"
"Good ones, bad ones, men with blood on their hands,"
"but I've never met an Argon boy, with a heart so true."
"And if I had, I wouldn't be here with you."

"I'm Captain Nolan," he introduced at last.
"Your friend Johnny Lee, has recently passed."
and the tears came a-fallin', as she held her head in her hands,
Captain Nolan said, "Let me tell you about Johnny's last stand."

He got up and left, and put a package on the table.
Yuki picked it up and looked at the label,

She opened it up not knowing what to expect.

Out came a Majaglit necklace, and a Nividium ring;
The most gorgeous jewelry she'd ever seen.
She opened the note accompanying it all.
And to this very day it's been on Yuki's wall.

It said "Yuki and Peter, a small wedding gift"
"Sorry I won't be back from my trip in the rift"
"But if I made it safer for the Argon's like you"
"Then going on living's all I ask you do."

Peter and Yuki, got married moved away
They're planet-bound now and their living each day
they still love each other and all their kids
And they still tell the story of what Johnny Lee did.
