Unkown vs Unclaimed Sector

Unkown vs Unclaimed Sector

Some sectors in FL marked as "Unclaimed" were previously marked "Unknown" in previous versions, ie the sector next to Legend's Home. However, there are still some sectors that are marked as "Unknown" in FL, such as The Void Alpha & Eta, Savage Spur, and Freedom's Reach. I assume this was done intentionally by the devs.

Lore-wise, what would make those sectors, who have no clear owner, different from the unclaimed sectors? What would make them unclaimable by the player?
These days I mainly just talk to plants and dogs,
all human contact seems painful, risky, odd,
so I stay acting god in my own X-Universe!
