Only about half of the possible remote systems exist in any given playthrough. They are selected randomly when you start a new game.

The Beta sector is better than the main sector since it has many high-yield asteroids and is not owned by another race. However, the main sector is still very valuable given its 450% suns. If you are friendly with Argon/Goner, I would suggest building your megaplex in Harmony of Perpetuity, and use the Hub to import ores/silicon from other sectors and export energy cells back to them. Building the HQ there as well would shorten supply lines, but is not necessary if you prefer to have your own sector.
