Jumped while caping, strange behavior - solved

Post by Midnightknight »

Hello,

I had a Boron Hydra fly after me in a friendly sector and i thought it would be fun to capture it with the Acynonyx and 10 trained marines.
So i just did that, fly at it, launched a boarding pod and it jumped while my marines where inside ...

So i reloaded and retied a bit smarter, adding it to my screen to see where it would jump, and launched my pods earlier to be sure to have both hit before it jumped and well, it worked, my marines were inside when it jumped to safety.
But when i checked where it was, in Hila's joy, boron sector, i realized it's hull and shields were dropping continuously and before i could jump after it, it was destroyed ...

So i wonder what just happened? Did other borons ships attacked it to kill my marines inside ..? Do the boarding simply kill ships that jumps away?

You can check capture steps in list of all your marines. May be they are not trained enought to capture ship in one piece.
It is possible to capture ship OOS after he jumped out.

They are well trained at least high enough for a M6 with no defense upgrade. I caped a few M6 and TM with those 10 marines already so it's unlikely they weren't able to cap it in one piece. By the way, the hull fell really fast and shields too, not really how it work when boarded.

XENON!!!!!......at least that's my guess. They seem to like to camp near gates a blow up whoever shows up. Boarded plenty of ships which jumped OOS and I've never seen the shields take damage from marines. Some have died from hull damage from the marines having too low Engineering skill.

Oh **** ... Haven't think about that ... So a big Xenon ship in Hila's joy that just jumped there OOC before it jumps? Might be true, a bit counter intuitive cause i was in Hilas joy a bit before and that's why the Boron followed me ... And no Xenon. But yeah they spawned many time just on my ships when trying to pass through a gate ... Will have to check that, thank you, i think i have a save.

Since you know where it is jumping, as soon as your marines board, I would jump there and see what happens.

Was too short on ecells ... So i'm trying to go to the closest solar plant, and retry to see what's happening. But i'm happy to hear boarding could work OOS anyway.

You could jump another ship to that same gate if ecells are an issue, and just look oos

You would have lost your marines anyway, as the shields of a Heavy Hydra would have recharged to above 10% long before they cut through the hull.

Ships that jump away often return through the nearest gate after a moment to attack you again. Catch them there. I had a Yokohama jump around a dozen times this way before capture

Fun fact: the two easiest M6 to capture are the Hyperion Vanguard and Acinonyx Prototype, because their shield reload rate sucks

Well the marines were inside before it jumped ahah. Acynonyx can drop shields so fast that you can send your 2 boarding pod and keep shields at 0 before it have a chance to jump and the first 5 marines are already inside.

But it was only a Hydra, not a big deal.

Still i will remember about your tick of the ship returning to attack. Good to know to trick them!
