Hostile Bailed Pilots issue?

Post by Neferdias »

It's been a while since I've played an X3 game so please let me know if this is intended now.

I've been finding that when a pilot bails from their ship, they show up as a hostile astronaut. It was easy enough to avoid killing them and turning sector police hostile when flying a fighter or corvette but I've noticed that since I started flying an M7 that my turrets love to turn them into mincemeat. Probably due to the pilot holding onto their faction when they bail... is this something that has to be contended with now? Or is this a bug? Or am I missing a setting change in a menu somewhere?

One way to avoid killing them: set your turrets to defend ship instead of attack all enemies. You could also set the custom turrets commands, just avoid them attacking everything at will.

Doesn't help me in station defence missions. I suppose I could just spam each attacking ship with a surrender command so they don't ignore me but that seems like a workaround. Would be nice if astronauts could be included as an entity in the turret scripts list, so they can be ignored by default or included if you're a savage.

I'm pretty sure this used to be an issue on the release of AP and it was classified as a bug and fixed. Dunno, I just haven't seen it pointed out.

I've never had astronauts show up as hostile? Could you still pick them up?

Yes you can still pick them up and use them as pilots or deliver them. That they are hostile to you tends to happen a lot once you are very hostile to a faction. In my case i usually see them once i reach -3 or -4 with a faction. Their behavior is exactly the same as normal, only differences are:
1) Your turrets may fire on them depending on their settings
2) The autotarget after you destroy a ship may target the astronauts if they are closer than other hostile ships
3) Battle music plays if you are near them

I think you can avoid shooting them by customizing the turret configuration. The only settings that I know that auto-shoots them is 'attack enemies' or 'attack target'. I use these settings and it doesn't attack them:
Missile Defense
Attack Fighters
Attack M6+
Attack M7+
Protect ship
Attack what ship is attacking

Fair enough. I was using 'attack enemies' or 'attack my target'. I guess they wouldn't need to be included as an entity if you set up your turrets like this. I will give this a shot.
