Hi all,
I have just been watching the X2 video and I noticed the lights on the capital ships dont go out as they explode/come apart.
Would be nice if they did, if a ship is in 3 pieces then surley the power cables have been cut ?...

not neccessarily, think, if hull were breached anywhere on a ship, it would be game over in reality. but if the ship were compartmentated, lots of individual blocks say, each with their own small power sources, then the breach would not be so catastrophic, an the lights would stay on. god some big words there, me brain is achin now.

Yeah it would be nice.
One of the things I noted about Klingon Academy was that the ships showed realistic power fluctuations. If a section of the hull was breached, any lights near the breach would shut down or flicker erratically. It was especially cool when a ship was in it's death throes and as different sections ruptured the lights would flicker and eventually turn off if the ship became a hulk.
It's the little things

I was wondering what happens to space debris from destroyed ships? Does it disappear to save system resources - the way enemies in FPS (say how the zombies disappear from a level when you go through a bulkhead in System Shock 2) or does the debris remain as a big navigational hazard for you to run into if you are not careful.
Does it float off in the last direction it was blown towards or just hang in space?
I am imagining a scripted main story mission where you have to go on a spacewalk through a debris field and dodge floating parts of starship.

Then we need some recycling factories making metal which the shipyards would really require and we could also have some few recycling ships goin around doin their job if after sometime if none picks it.
Hope we could have our own recycling factory with recycling ships goin around insearch of these scrap metal.
