The 'Community' X2 FAQ
Well, I've pretty much pu the X-Tenson FAQ to bed now, since nothing new is happening on that front. Steel is working on a pre-release, official FAQ for the Egosoft site, who knows if it will continue into the game or how often it will be updated (take a look at the FAQ for XT on the Egosoft site if you want a laugh). The question still remains; what, if anything, do we want to do for a community FAQ for X2?
This will obviously be more dynamic that the XT FAQ since questions will occur and change as people play the game. It will also be important, I feel, not to give to much away in the FAQ, since people will want to explore the game for themselves. I'm still keen to be involved in producing a Community FAQ but designing, writing and hosting the vast majority of such a project is beyond me and the time I have available.
I've been in contact with the FAQ authors over at Lancers Reactor for a few tips but what I really want to know is what you guys think. Could you please supply your thoughts on some or all of the following questions (if you care)?
Would you like to see a community produced FAQ for X2?
Should such an FAQ begin immediately with pre-release FAQs?
Should an FAQ contain only information from the forum and/or fansites? (as opposed to inside information from Ego and beta testers)
How many people should write the FAQ content (1 person means a lot of work but more consistency, more people meens less work but a less coherent finished product)?
Which is more important good looks, good content or easy to find information?
Do you have any skills you feel would be of use to an FAQ team? Would you like to be involved?
Do you still want me to be 'FAQ-master' or would you rather someone else (with more time) took over?
If you're a moderator and you think it's appropriate, could you make this sticky for a few days please?
Thanks for your time and minds.

Tricky one to tackle this one.
Post release - definitely - a community FAQ is invaluable. Links to fansites is a must - I can remember back in X-BTF days relying heavily on some of the first sites (Thanks CJ
). I think there's enough quality support within the X community that these fansites will be up and running a couple of weeks after the release, with tips on starting out, trading etc. In time, it would be good to THEN consolidate these onto a main FAQ site.
Pre-release is a bit more difficult. I think that Steel's FAQ should deal with most of the issues that new visitors want to find out about, and that should be up and running soon. They'll be game features, PC requirements etc. I think at this stage this FAQ is more important.
However, a framework for a post-release community FAQ should certainly be established soon so we are ready to run once X2 is out. Ideally, this should be run by only a few individuals to kep the structure and content sound, but should of course have many contributors.

*****************************************************
I should think they are equally important but if it's difficult to find info then looks or content may as well not be there
if it's a question of priority then i would guess,
Easy to find information,
Content,
Presentation.
I would offer my services but i can barely put an email together!

Re: The 'Community' X2 FAQ
I edited this post because my first attempt at an answer was really unhelpful. Sorry about that.
On Tuesday after Grimm's state of the cesspool address, someone asked me to build them a website. Rather than do that, I sent them a prefabricated one I'd made myself. If you want, I could send it to anyone who wants it to use it for FAQ design. It's not too bad, if I do say so myself.
Either that or I could do a few graphics. Nothing fancy, but nothing pants either

I can vouch for that!ElectricMonk wrote: It's not too bad, if I do say so myself.

I expect this will become a hot topic again when X2 hits the shelves.

I would love to see an X-2 community site up and running. I have a small site of my own, nothing flashy but I'm proud of it.
Easy Access to up-to-date information should be the top priority at this moment in time, it might not look pretty but if it tells u what u wanna know then thats enough for a start. As for whom should complete all this work, I think that there should be enough beta testers and player/developers around this game to cover many of the main issues, perhaps speading the work to departments would be an idea, like a department for newbie help, advanced Xenon stratergy, so on and so forth.
If I can help, I will do so gladly but my time is sadly limited as is my talent in this area but as I said if I can help just ask, my Icq number is in my profile and my site is located at -

Thanks folks. With Steel FAQ now in view it appears we have a bit more time to play with. I'll probably start by trying to get a decent design together, one that is easier to maintain than the last. I'll be in touch with those who've offered help shortly (famous last words!). Cheers,
