Intercepted report from an unknown senior intelligence agency operative and a Star Field Marshal regarding the Khaak / X-Universe War.
Part 2 of 5
Week 31-35
The fall of the southern sectors as well as the loss of the eastern sectors combined with regular Khaak Fighter/Destroyer raids against our supply convoys and manufacturing facilities have given us a huge logistical headache. We have lost well over a half of our total reserve strength. Our front line forces are down by a third and our shipbuilding output has fallen to a critical level. The Argon and Teladi have large quantities of mothballed ships, Argon One's and Mark 1 Titans, Teladi Phoenix and Condor Cruisers mainly. These ships are antiquated, many sold to civilians. Another problem is crewing these vessels. We've lost many good veteran starship crews trying to keep the Khaak at bay. Recruitment isn't a problem nor is training, but we are putting inexperienced crews into underpowered under armed ships straight onto the front lines to plug the gaps in our defences. Despite this morale is still relatively high, many service personnel despite their inexperience are eager to give the Khaak a bloody nose for their troubles.
Week 36
In a surprising move, the main Pirate Clans have offered to suspend their illegal operations and commit their stations and ships to the war effort. Bali Stoebroeker The son of the notorious Tali Stoebroeker Pirate approached High Command with his offer. As head of the biggest pirate clan in the X-Universe, Bali says his Pirate fighters and ships will, instead of raiding supply convoys, will now provide escort. His mobile bases and mobile prefab dockyards will prove very useful in ship construction despite the fact they can only knock out 2 ships at a time instead of 6-8 for a full shipyard. However, their mobility means we can move the shipyards around reducing risk of attack.
I suspect behind this offer is Grimm's Cartel. Grimm still has a lot of clout with the Pirate Clans despite his 'legitimate' status. We suspect that he's offered high tech weapons and equipment in exchange for Pirate cooperation. For the moment investigation into this will have to wait, besides we need the pirates and their ships. We are in a position of beggars can't be choosers at the moment, and all help is gratefully received.
Week 37
Heavy fighting is still raging among the Pirate and Paranid sectors, however the Paranid with Argon support is beginning to repel the continuous Khaak raids.
The sectors between Ianamus Zura and Trinity Sanctum are now under total Khaak control our efforts to wrest control back off the Khaak has proven ineffective. High command have made the decision to switch off the gates between these sectors. Even with jump drives it is impossible to jump out of those blockaded sectors. A lot of people have been left to their own devices under Khaak ministrations. However, in our weakened state High Command have been left with little choice. We'll deal with these guys at a later date.
Argon Prime was hit by a surprise Khaak destroyer raid which almost destroyed the shipyard there. To preserve what ship building capacity we have left the Argon Government have deactivated all the jump gates except for the southern one, which is in turn protected by 20 missile/laser towers and a pair of Titan mk2's. Everything coming into the sector is scanned, and if necessary boarded and searched. The ship yard and trade station will be offline for two weeks for repairs.
Week 38
There has been a lot of communications traffic from the Khaak held sectors into Kingdom End but strangely no communication back out again, This is odd, although ships cannot pass through a locked gate communications are mostly unaffected relying on a much higher waveband to pass from one gate to another. This has only deepened the mystery as to what is going on in KE.
The Split and the Argon have each volunteered 3 corvettes for a long range reconnoitre of Kingdom End. These vessels are ideal for such a mission, smaller than a Capital ship, fast too, yet big enough to carry a big punch. Each can carry a single light scout fighter for fast recon and escort. They are currently replacing their Jump Drives with little used hyperdrive systems and once this has been accomplished then they'll get underway, setting off from Queens Space, which is only 1.5 light years away from KE. However even at top speed it will still take them around two weeks to reach the Boron Homeworld. Once at Kingdom End their orders are to recon the system, avoid trouble and find out what the Khaak are up to then report back via FTL burst transmission.
Week 39-40
The Corvettes have reached Kingdom End and what they had to report was very strange. Approaching the sector from multiple directions using nebulae and asteroids as cover they were surprised to discover the whole sector was deserted. Debris littered the whole area, as was expected, the Boron put up strong resistance but the hulks of their ships and stations revealed their defeat. Nothing living was left, not even the Khaak who should have been swarming around in victory, reinforcing their positions.
It wasn't until a couple of days later when two of the Split Dragon Corvettes checking out the Boron Homeworld for survivors found where the Khaak were. The wreckage of the 30 strong Khaak fleet was found in among what was left of the Boron Homeworld's Orbital Defence grid. The entire fleet was smashed into twisted metal, all except one Khaak destroyer. The Destroyer, floating dead and lifeless on close examination seem to have avoided the fiery doom of its colleagues, however its was totaly without power knocked out it seems by whatever disabled the Jumpgates. Once we have this destroyer secured in a drydock we can begin investigate this situation more thoroughly.
Good news, the Boron homeworld is badly hit but only military targets. Casualties among the civilian population were light and much of its economic infrastructure is still intact. The gates are undamaged; some kind of electro magnetic pulse of enormous and unknown power forced the gates to go into diagnostic mode. Effectively causing the gates to shut down until someone could manually reset their systems from the affected side.
Notes: When we were able to reset the gates and bring reinforcements through I launched an investigation as to why the Khaak were destroyed wholesale like that. The Boron have knocked this up as a victory for themselves and I'm personally content with that for morale's sake. We need a victory right now to boost people's spirits.
Truth is the Boron simply do not have that kind of firepower not even its extensive defence grid. However after analysing the wreckage, the trace energy signature found among the destroyed Khaak vessels match nothing on record, the energy signature is also similar to the EMP surge that knocked out the gates and the Khaak Destroyer. Also what concerns me is the sheer power of these energy weapons. Only the Xenon M0 Class can put out that kind of offensive wattage, and the only one in the X-Universe is currently in a Split Drydock after being damaged helping to retake Scale Plate Green. One other thing whilst I'm on the subject. The intact Khaak Destroyer was deserted when it was found, no crew, nothing. All its fighters and escape pods were still in place. Almost as if the crew was simply scooped out of their ship and taken. I'm keeping this information to ourselves at the moment. The last thing I want people to need right now are demoralizing rumours about the possibility of yet another, even more powerful, new race sharing the X-Universe with us. Things seem to be getting a little crowded now.
End of part two....
Part 3 next week.
