I am attempting to change the cartoonist colors that have been applied to all the weapons and turrets in the game to a more neutral color/tint, most likely a gun-metal blue/grey. The existing colors clash badly with a majority of the ship paints.
The issue I'm having is finding the area where the colors are located. I've gone through the entire .CAT file system and been unable to find the proper items. Any help in finding their location would be appreciated.
Another modder has done this with the small and medium engines, and they look much better in my opinion, but apparently they use another tint source.

Re: [HELP] Change weapons color/tint
Hello, yeh my neutral engine tint mods do this, took a while to locate the parts that do it. I had a look, have you tried the assets\props\WeaponSystems\ models? The colour information is in the vertex channel of the actual meshes.
I took a video of how its done for visual learners like myself, maybe it will help you somehow. Here you go
Oh, the palette file I have set up in that video has to be setup manually, quick google search should explain how. The final files you need are just the lod0, lod1, lod2, lod3 files - dont need the rest of the stuff that you will get when converting back from dae. Put those lod files into a subst_01 cat/dat file and you should be good to go (subst files overwrite vanilla files without any xmls or anything).

Re: [HELP] Change weapons color/tint
Thanks for the information I would have spent another week looking for them before looking in the meshes for baked in textures. (I WAS hoping for a simple system.) This games almost as difficult as the Witcher series to mod.
The first weapon of the first folder has 18 different LOD files... This is going to take some time.
I really wish the Egosoft's designers would take a approach more like the Bethesda games, with a game construction program that even a novice can learn the basics of in five minutes, it makes the game infinitely more playable when you can customize it to your personal liking.
