updating on steam is stuck at validating . keeps on trying

Try exiting the Steam Client completely (i.e. over the menu, not just closing the client window) and restart the client.

This is more an issue for Steam support than for Egosoft. The download and validation process is not under our control, and we can only make suggestions for things that might help. You'd have to ask Steam for more specific advice. One thing to note is that the validation process can take quite a long time, so be patient. You may be able to speed things up for it a little bit by disabling your anti-virus for the game folder.
