[3.0 HF1 + SV] LT's fire through ships

Post by Scoob »

Hi,

I reported the cause of this bug during the Beta of 3.0, but this is another symptom of that.

Basically, when ships Launch Laser Towers, they often get stuck very near the surface of the ship, rather than being flung away from the ship a short distance. This means they can often get caught up on the superstructure of the launching ship - the Phoenix being a prime candidate for this.

However, another side affect of this is when a launched Laser Tower partially clips through the launching ship. This just happened to me.

A disabled (no engines or turrets left) Split Buffalo started spamming LT's just as I was about to board it. The LT's were launched from the TOP of the ship and my Boarding Pods were approaching from BELOW the ship. Basically, the entire ship was between those LT's and my Pods. The pods should not have been in any danger. However, as some of the LT's were so very close to the ship that launched them, when they pointed down to track the Pods, while they did not have LoS on them, they clipped into the ship model. This allowed them to fire through the ship and hit my pods.

I think LT's should be flung a fair distance - at the very least 100 metres - from the launching ship and only activate once they stop. Currently they cause various problems like the one described here, but they also clump together, overlapping each other, and often shoot the ship that launched them. They may be low damage, but when a ship has spammed a lot of them they can take down an unshielded Capital Ship surprisingly quickly.

In summary, any ships that launches LT's from a hatch, needs to fling those LT's some distance to avoid this issue.

Scoob.
