Hey guys/girls,
Haven't played in a long long time and just starting fresh again (another huge learning curve) but i was wondering for some of you long termers if you could answer a couple of quick questions?
Is there any specialised Ships in the game? What i mean by this is that is there a particular ship/faction ship that does a better job than the others? I always liked how in X3 the Teladi ships were slow but had good Cargo and strong Hulls, whereas the Split were the Opposite, fast, poor cargo.
Is there any regularly updated YouTube Channels of current players that can help a novice get started, I don't mean a how to mine for Crystals to get rich quick but a lets play type of game - Most seem to be older versions from a year or two ago, perhaps these are still relevant?
Starting off, what would be your recommended go to ship - Jack of All Master on None type until i'm established enough to start branching out into specialised ships for certain things?
Thanks in Advance
BA

Re: Returning X3 Player seeking clarity
The racial specializations are pretty much the same as previous titles. They extend past the ships to the equipment however. For example, Teladi shields have more shield strength but poorer recharge stats, regardless of what ship hull you put them on. Even their turrets are stronger than other races.
if you can get a pirate Minotaur Raider to bail out, that makes for an excellent multi-role ship early on. Its strong enough in combat, can carry some cargo, and looks pretty good to boot. And they are pretty widely available, there's pirates crawling around many places. You can defeat one with a two-gun fighter with some effort and they typically operate alone. However, they make use of IFF spoofers that make them show up as another faction; they can still be identified since their ship ID still says "Minotaur Plunderer" or somesuch title like that. You can make them drop their IFF spoofing by scanning them, which is good because the police will get made at you if the spoofing is still up. They also drop the spoofing when attacking people or robbing stations.

Irrational factors are clearly at work.

- There are some race specific stats which are quite pronounced since 3.0 and SV dropped.
- If you follow the Boron quest line a free drone carrier will spawn at the rally point when you go rescue him
- The Boron's captor station will be always in the same sector where you first contacted him, and the spawning ship will always be of the race controlling said sector.
- You can then either keep or sell this ship and buy another one
- Generally most early and mid game story missions can be done with a fighter or heavy fighter class, so I'd sell the carrier and buy one of those
- So the Nova, Eclipse, Mamba, Falcon, Buzzard and Perseus are the best choices to quickly get around, be able to land anywhere, and have little issue with station geometry
- I'd advise avoiding M ships for story missions as a lot of them require you to land on ships that only have S docks or make you fly around stations where they can get stuck
When selling captured ships always strip them of equipment first in the upgrade menu. Directly selling them will lose you money.
The HAT guild mission visible in their sector is the MAIN quest line best started after rescuing the Boron.
If you do one of the Split starts their starting missions are long term although they give you an indicator which may make you feel to do it on the spot.
To unlock the Teladi start you have to do the PHQ quest line first.
