Can someone explain the Fires of Defeat starting scenario please?

I've started playing in fires of defeat and I really enjoyed the start of it. Watching a space battle ending, waiting for your ship to come and pick you up it was really nice.

When I got my ship, I instantly flew into FRF space, since I'm apparently part of the FRF army. Judging by the big space battle, I would say that ZYA and FRF are enemies.
So WHY, are there millions of ZYA ships all over the FRF sectors (even the core sectors) not fighting but just doing their normal business?
I can't stay anywhere for more than a minute because a squadron of ZYA fighters will find me and hunt me.

I've also noticed that I start with -5 FRF reputation. My theory is that I lost my reputation with the split faction, when my fleet was defeated in combat, but I'd like someone to confirm that.

All in all it's a in my opinion really weird gamestart and the only solution I can think off is either trying to restore your FRF rep while ZYA is hunting you down, or abandon the split sectors completely, build your empire in the main universe and go back when you're strong.

Im trying to do FRF missions while avoiding ZYA ships....step by step increasing my rep with FRF and upgrading my ship.

Well, I'm 2 hours into my savegame now and apparently the FRF are already putting up defenses and stuff, but there's no direct combat yet

Are you red with FRF in any way?

I wanted to see the Split stations and ships, but I can't go there before I have a few destroyers it seems.

well, on my longterm savegame that I carried over from 2.6, all ZYAs are red and FRF is negative reputation.
On my ZYA starting scenario ZYA is I think +20 rep and FRF is red (argons are red too)
And now on my FRF start, it's the other way around (and argons are neutral)
