Do Crew make a difference on Builder ships?

Hey all,

So, I usually fully crew my Builder ships, and the crew gains experience quite quickly. However, a full crew is several million credits, so I was wondering whether I can do without a full compliment, and what, if any, the downsides might be.

The reason I'm buying my own Builder - Mammoth to be specific - is that NPC Builders aren't using Building Drones in my game, and they take between two and three times as long to build anything. To avoid the epic levels of frustration I've experienced already, I want my own Builder early, so I can get on with my building plans in a timely manner.
