Scanning and EVA... Ugh...
I will never understand why an economic simulation ala empire building game puts so much focus on the ludicrous signal leaks scanning and EVA... I want to build a massive empire, and economic and military powerhouse, not bumble around in my spacesuit trying to fly it around a station. It completely ruins this game for me, and it's a shame because otherwise, it's a real gem. Exactly what I would've liked to play if it weren''t for this asinine aspect to it. Empire building my ass...

Unless it's some story mission : If you don't like missions that require you to scan or repair stations, why are you doing it? There are plenty of other missions and possibilities to make money.

Once you have advanced enough through the early plot and game you don't really *have* to. You can buy station module blueprints (with suitable faction rep) instead of scanning for them, you can avoid the loot and lore items in datavaults, and you can ignore station missions or find the ones you do like via the bulletin board.

Initially, it was the flight school tutorial... And if it's focused on that much in the beginning tutorial, it must be a big part of the game. I know when I played on release, I kept having to do it... so much I just stopped playing the game, because as I said, I want to build an empire, not fumble around in space in a suit...Rei Ayanami wrote: ↑Wed, 1. So basically you're telling me to skip out on all these features of the game, which points out how important it actually is... Won't be able to do data vaults, and there's a lot of stuff you can allegedly get in them, that I won't get, because I choose to skip the stupid and asinine aspects of the game that have nothing to do with empire building and management... To buy the blueprints, you'll need a very, very, very large account which you will not have early on, and to get the rep up enough to buy said plans you'll need to do other missions, which coincidentally enough are the data vaults, station scanning, and other hated activities in order to avoid doing hated activities...Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Wed, 1. ... so you really do want to do them after all.
Seriously, Egosoft are not going to totally rewrite the base game for you.

Ok, the flight school tutorial is for making sure that you know how the game works.wizaerd wrote: ↑Wed, 1. Apr 20, 16:58Initially, it was the flight school tutorial... But let me tell you, It's not really neccessary if you dont want to do it. i barely do station scanning for data leaks (usually only when i've nothing else to do while flying around a station). As i've said, there are plenty of other ways to get money : Missions, crytal mining, normal mining, trading, letting your freighters trade and thus make you money over time, capturing and selling ships, getting a police license and hunt criminals/enemies near friendly station to get bounty money, killing ships and selling their dropped cargo, building stations, etc.
Not really. For the basic production/storage/docking modules you dont need a lot of rep and only need a few hundred thousand credits, that can be easily made in a short time.To buy the blueprints, you'll need a very, very, very large account
Or heck, just get enough money to get one or two mineral miners and let them automine in Argon Prime, over time they'll make good money for you.

Nope. Scanning is 99% optional. Well, it's 100% optional since plots are optional. I don't get this mindset that it's somehow essential. It isn't. You have to scan like three leaks for plot reasons (was one before 3.0), and that's it. Two of the three are spoon-fed to you by guidance.
No need to scan anything in data vaults. Data vaults themselves are not required for anything pertinent to your economy. And they don't have anything to do with reputation. Items you find in them you find in the game world through other means as well.
Blueprints are available for purchase without scanning. Or you can induce them with EMP, but then you do have to scan those induced leaks. So you have three options for getting blueprints and you don't like either?.. You want all blueprints at the start free of charge?
Getting a very, very, very large account is the point, you're not supposed to have it "early on". Entry level blueprints cost pennies and provide insane ROI.
I agree though that the game overemphasizes this scanning feature for no reason, which may indeed give an impression that it's essential. They did the same with Rebirth, and people also complained, all the while scanning wasn't necessary to progress in the game at all. It isn't here either.
