Easy , yeah right

Post by Camtech »

Sorry folks if i ask a lot of questions, but this is what this forum is for.
Im doing a easy mission, and perhaps some of you have done this one.
Im doing the mission where i have to go and find a ship that may have been destroyed. all they want me to do is collect any thing salvageable.
the first thing i find is a huge box called a lockbox. I cannot seem to load it or open it. i even went out in a space suit and tried to find a way to open it.
And then i took drastic measures and shot it with a missile. and that defiantly did not work. As i said the learning curve is huge. and the manual is not helping either.
So does anyone have a clue on how to proceed, i know im missing something.
Thx....RobertC

If your Mission Target is this Lockbox, you can open it when you fire (no Missles) on the Red Key Points arround it. These Boxes are very weak so if you miss one or to shots and hit the box it self and not the "red key spots" the box and thier loot get destroyed. If you manage to hit all keyspots the Box open and you can collect what ever is in with your ship directly

What he said, shoot the red locks from the lock box and press O to suck in the contents.

Some of them are really hard or near impossible to open though if they are spinning like mad, it's also best to just use 1 gun and try not to miss, especially if you're really close because you'll get blown up which is why i avoid them all together

This is much easier to do with beam weapons: the beam will hit exactly where your little blue targeting dot points at.

Did you not notice the massive glowing red locks with glowing and pulsing lock symbols on the lockbox as well as the text on your screen saying "locks 6/6" (or similar)?

The manual, which is sticked in this very forum, tells you exactly what to do in simple English.

https://www.egosoft.com:8444/confluence ... table+Loot
Lockboxes require the player to accurately shoot between 1-16 glowing red locks off the spinning box to open without dealing enough damage to destroy the box along with the contents.
Also, why do you sign your posts? We can see your username next to each of your posts already. I've never understood why people do that.

Note that you can nudge a spinning lockbox to slow down the spin or even stop it. The spacesuit laser is the easiest way to open lockboxes, it takes 2 full bursts to destroy each lock (if there are mines hidden in the lockbox its really bad if you are in your suit).

You can always get out and use your suit laser, and just repair the box when you miss the lock.

Suit laser always seemed a little risky to me. Prefer to stay in a ship & use a low powered beam type weapon. Mining Drill is ideal, does very little damage so plenty of margin for error. However only compatible with a comparatively small number of ships. 3.0 provides another option I quite like, the Burst Ray. Does a fair bit more damage than the Mining Drill, but still considerably less than a conventional Beam Emitter (about 50%). Would also recommend installing a weapon mod to reduce damage further (e.g. green Mistral cooling mod can reduce a weapon's damage by around 30%).

I don't think I've ever failed one of these missions using a beam weapon, even when the boxes were spinning on multiple axes. I do admit that after several, I just got bored and moved on to more interesting and rewarding things.
