I know, weird? But wouldn't it be cool if.. Say.. Argon Flu was able to ravage stations, effecting the speed of production in stations?
Better still, it could lead to interesting missions of delivering medical supplies or even medical supply shortages that lead to an increased chance of getting a virus on one of your stations.
The more well stocked a station is? The lowest chance that an outbreak can happen.
But if there is a massive shortage of medical supplies then chances of an outbreak happening can increase and even spread to neighbouring stations, or even have the virus spread through pilots that land on an infected station, they pick up the virus and they spread it to the station they're selling the wares to.
Only Stations with plenty of Medical Supplies can protect a station from infection.

I like this idea, i would also like it if spaceweed/spacefuel gave negative effects for the station otherwise what is the point in policing it in your own sectors.
Even if it just increased the presence of pirates/illegal activity.

Maybe make it like Dirty Industry in SimCity? Good for early growth but it hampers long term gameplay.
Tying drugs to pirates is a good idea.

I like the idea of a mission as well as more sink for medical supplies, but I don't like the idea of impact on station or NPC.
Just add it as another generic mission.

I agree, this is the best solution. On the topic of viruses, you can make a whole bunch of illegal missions:
1. Deliver the virus to the station in order to increase the demand for smuggled medicines.
2. Deliver the battle virus to the enemy ship. The virus eliminates 20-70% of the crew.
3. Steal the battle virus from a military laboratory.

The Corona virus and the fact that Q1 is almost over makes me wonder what gets me first, COVID-19 or Split Vendetta?

Nice idea. But stuff like this is usually too close to home to be implemented, I think.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Loving the ideas and criticisms respectively.
Maybe not reduce the effectiveness of Workers? But maybe cause a temporary decrease to pops in station, even the increase of demand in Medical Supplies?
There is literally no incentive to use it if i'm building an empire, spaceweed or spacefuel doesn't effect me or my sectors economy.
Spaceweed is profitable, effecting your rivals stations with a small production penalty gives the policing mechanic a purpose.
I was taken in by the hype of this feature when Egosoft announced it. But now that I have it? I see no point to it.
But once there is an outbreak of say 'Argon Flu' in the station, it should trigger awesome missions like the ones you've mentioned.
One Hand, a small 'temporary' debuff of worker productivity can be countered by meeting demand for medical supplies that would.. After a certain percentage of storage demand is met? 60-80% of their workers needs? Can disable the virus outbreak on that Station and the workers will be back to normal speed.
Or completing a medical supply mission that would trigger on a station that has an Argon Flu Outbreak. You get rich and you once again stop a virus spread in it's tracks.
The goods counter-balance, one hand you have a slight debuff on the other you have lots of ample opportunities to make profitsss.
Love the idea of bio-weaponizing the flu to disrupt your trade rivals or to make money doing dirty jobs for criminals, that makes the pirate aspect of the game even more fun.

I've found once i've claimed a sector.. That I never use the policing mechanic, I don't see a purpose to it other than using it to rob ships of vital cargo I need.

The Production Nerf doesn't have to be Outbreak levels of negative penalties.Wehrwolf_10 wrote: ↑Sun, 8. Mar 20, 13:06 I agree, this is the best solution. On the topic of viruses, you can make a whole bunch of illegal missions:
