Couple of Questions Before I Purchase Collectors Ed

Post by NCBlacksmith »

Looking hard at purchasing Collectors Edition. Before I do, was hoping forum members who have purchased this and used Steam could answer couple of questions I am having a difficult time finding answers to:
1 - It looks like the download size of the Digital Collectors Ed. is around 9.5 - 10gb. Is this correct?
2 - I live out in the sticks with wireless connectivity and downloading a file that size will take around 3-4 hours. If download is interrupted, does Steam have a process that allows you to pickup download where you left off vs. starting over again? I seem to recall several years ago numerous gaming sites that had this feature.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Steam was a delta patching service before it was an open storefront. It's capable of resuming interrupted downloads in whatever form, as well as redownloading only corrupt game files, downloading only what is necessary to patch, backing up game files, and moving installations between steam library folders without redownloading.

Of relevance to users with limited bandwidth. Steam can also throttle your download bandwidth as well as set only specific timeframes for auto-patching games. You can also set it to a low bandwidth mode to limit the display of community content like screenshots and disable Steam Cloud synchronization of save games. (You can spend a lot of bandwidth on Steam Cloud sync with some games - X4 savegames can reach 50+MB.)

I cannot speak as to the download size of x4, but it is 14gb extracted on my disk. So around 10gb sounds correct. Note that this will probably increase with the release of Split Vendetta.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

Thanks a ton for responding! This gives me good hope that I can get it downloaded first go-round!

Steam is great you shouldn't have to reset the download and start over you can download as much as you want at a time, this includes updates, DLC and Expansions.

What may have been padding out the download size a bit was the bundled digital music score in the Collectors' Edition (CE). Steam handle music scores slightly differently now and it may be that you can now download the game and music separately (but still both bundle-included). I don't know for sure as I had the older CE version.

Thanks again to everyone who replied! This will make things easy-peasy (that is, until I start playing!).
