What if you have a capital ship with destroyed engines and no repair drones? For all I know we can't dock an auxiliary ship to a broken ship in order to repair it. And while we're at it, I'd also like to be able to fetch M-size and S-size ships via tractor beam onto an auxiliary ship.

you can at least transfer repair drones (in 3b) although I think I have issues if the new pilot is not >=2*. If you have freight drones I think you can transfer other wares.

How can I transfer anything if the other ship can't move? Anyway my idea was to have those auxiliary ships more useful.trooperrob wrote: ↑Tue, 3. Try ordering the aux to freight transfer to the target.
select the other ship, right click on broken ship etc, it will go to the broken ship for the transfer.
just transfer repair drones to start with.
Crew transfers can be done in space as well and they will gain engineering.
If issues present ensure at least 2* pilots on each / moving away. (promote marine to pilot, order crew transfer with higher skilled pilot, then promote him)
This is in 3beta.
post again if this doesnt work for you.
[edit] this doesnt have to be an aux, but you may need cargo drones on the source ship.

So you guys say you're NOT interested in better features for auxiliary ships? Just wow! smh

I feel like such docking would be extremely niche use. The time it takes large ships to get anywhere, those engines would probably already have been repaired by crew.

Yeah that's what I thought. It's impressive though that the crew can "repair" utterly destroyed ship parts w/o any material. Why do we have ship yards again?radcapricorn wrote: ↑Tue, 3. I agree, it would be great to have repair vessels to call up when needed, I did enjoy using what I called my salvage fleet to gather or replenish any equipment or materials from damaged ships in X Rebirth,,, I did not need to do that, but it added a lot to my gameplay watching the ships arrive and go about their tasks,, BUT and a big BUT !! radcapricorn is right.. The time taken to get there would be easily negated by how quickly the ships self repair.

If all you're going to do is insult people who don't agree with you then kindly don't bother posting.

Agree with Cyron43, would indeed be great if I could order my auxiliaries to dock with other ships to repair them, rather than the other way round. Would certainly have saved at least a couple of my destroyers if I'd had auxiliaries nearby & they had this functionality (if they did they would have been there, 1 per fleet). Those ships were destroyed because their engines were broken & did not have long enough for service crews to make repairs before they were blown to bits by enemy destroyers. There would however have been more than enough time for an auxiliary in the same sector to have docked.
As things stand however, while I have a great many auxiliaries (over 70 Nomads working as freighters for my stations), none of them are with my fleets. Carriers do a better job for repairing S & M ships (superior docking facilities & overall better ships in terms of firepower, hull, shields, etc) & when my destroyers die it's mostly because they lost their engines & became a sitting duck. Makes auxiliaries just a little bit useless for mobile capital repairs.

personally i would rather have the challenge of pulling a dead destroyer on the front line with a tractor beam into safe zones to buy time for repairs by specialist damacon team

What if instead of docking, a ship with repair drones could just get close to a damaged ship and send over its drones?

My point is gameplay improvement, something more to do! Just out of fun I placed an M-ship somewhere in space (pretending it was unable to fly on it's own) and maneuvered a Nomad under it until the M-ship was right above a landing pad. Then I ordered the captain of the M-ship to dock (pretending a tractor beam pulled the last couple of meters). It's quite some work but I enjoyed it.

That says something about the game if you do that to entertain yourself, doesn't it?

True, I have to admit I'm already spoiled by Star Citizen even though I don't have it installed. However I'm soaking in YouTube videos each day. Can't wait for the Argo SRV tow ship and the Anvil Crucible repair ship - you know, where you do actually repair ships with welding, visually replacing components and so on.radcapricorn wrote: ↑Fri, 6.
