Please let me retrofit (at least the smaller) Xenon ships!

In X³ I have always loved being able to fly all the small and medium sized Xenon fighters as I just liked their design and what they stand for.

The Xenon N/M STILL look almost 1:1 like those old designs so why can we not destroy the AI units that control the fighter or the "antenna" should they be remotely controlled.
Make it a random quest if you don't just want to hand them out for free where a scientist has you disable some of the ships to retrofit/reverse engineer them.

I just reaaaaaally want to fly my Xenon fighters again...I can accept that their diversity has been chopped super hard...but why am I not allowed to even fly the tiny ones'?

Am I the only one that sorely misses this? :oops: :?

besides the IMO lazy lore reason we were given, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to hack or use some other method to capture these ships. before anyone states that ''AGI is outlawed'' so is piracy, so are certain illegal wares. I can straight up go to war with a faction and commit genocide for fun, why shouldn't I be able to break the AGI law? In previous games the Xenon ships were always a trophy to be had, now there are no such trophy ships to go after.

didn't x3 need a mod for that, xr did
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

You could fly Xenon even in X³:Reunion afaik...back then I didn't even know modding was a thing!

Yea the lack of any trophy-ships whatsoever is a bit sad. Sure X3 didn't get a lot of the specials like the Hyperion until a lot later...but you always had some of the more rare ships available if you really tried.

I don't think the small Xenon ships have any cockpit modeled, let alone any way to enter them or a chair to sit in.
The same goes for the large Xenon ships (nowhere to land on, no where to enter, no cockpit, no chair/no captains console).

So even if you managed to capture one you wouldn't be able to fly them. At least as far as i know.

I agree it was quite disappointing to lose flyable Xenon ships. Especially as it takes out what was for me a nice late(ish) game goal, since of course the larger ones must be boarded. Now, not only are all empire ships super easy to get, there's nothing else to get once you have them.

Well the old design Xenon FIGHTERS had cockpits because they were of the "original design" and were basically copied off of Terran design (by the Xenon) and thus initially had space to accommodate humans....at least that's how I remember the lore. (It's been a while, I might be wrong)

N/M also still LOOK similar to X³ design...so yea they'd have to make a cockpit for them...but that's why I said let us "retrofit" them.

Give us the ability to capture Xenon vessels and then outfit them with a cockpit...the knowledge from "back then" should still exist in the X4 era.

They literally don't have a cockpit modeled.... Do they even have landing gear..>?

Yeah, they don't have cokpit nor landing gear - I start to think that the reason why Xenons don't have a carrier is because their fighters are not technically fit to land on anything :(

I still hope that we will see the return of Xenon J someday.

I do not think it should be possible to be able to fly a Xenon ship, because that implies it would have a cockpit, and it wouldn't make any sense for an AI to build Computer-controlled ships with a cockpit - it would be a waste of space and resources.

Sorry that I have to repeat this but LOREWISE it makes a LOT of sense. The original Xenon ship designs are all based off of Terran coding and had their role as "Terraformers" hard coded deep into their system. The Xenon kept this in mind when creating ships and always made it possible to have humanoids inside of them. We even know that at least one human has been LIVING inside a CPU ship that even had working cryopods.

Why would Xenon ships need cryopods?

So again, all the OLD designs that are left over (Atm this is only the M and the N) should still have the capabilities (LORE). The new "organic" design is what the now self-conscious Xenon collective evolved into and it would not necessarily make sense to be able to fly THESE.

So there should be a cut. ANY old design should be flyable by humanoids...any new design, not so much.




To the others saying "But it doesn't physically have a cockpit and landing gears yadda yadda"....well yea this is how Egosoft released them atm. But this is also why a "retrofit" side mission to make them flyable for humanoids would be an amazing thing to add....it would give us actual content to go through. Just imagine the quirky Boron finding some old records that these ships should be flyable and then has you catch them and bring them to research so you can have them taken apart and rebuilt with modifications to make them flyable.
Basically have it look a bit like patchwork to make it clear that the thing is modified.

I don't see how this would be a bad option for anyone. People who want more things to do get missions, people who want to fly "new ships" get to fly new ships with only some work required by Egosoft and people who don't care about it can choose to ignore it just like any other part of the game.


And let's not forget literally all the X³ games and X:Rebirth gave you access to the small ships (Not sure but I think in the older X games you could even see the flight controls...memory is very hazy)

Well, depends on what Xenon branch you're talking about. The older Xenon branches (encountered in X-BTF/X-Tension/X2) still had cockpits in their model. Lore-wise it could be argued that older Xenon branches still had a hardcoded requirement as terraformers to support and transport human life, while the newer branches, such as Xenon branch 9 (X:Rebirth and X4), got rid of that "useless" requirement (perhaps after the CPU ships #efaa and #deff gained self-awareness they were able to refactor their own programming and created these cockpit-lacking branches?)

I really miss the endgame xenon boarding fun.
I collected one or two of all their fighters as well, though didn't really use them except when i had to visit terran space. But boarding their capships was one of the best part of the game.

They could even loose a couple hardpoints, or get reduced stats on ownership change if it's really necessary due to balance issues.. but would be nice to have this again.
Or requirements for successful boarding could be so high that the ship stats might even stay.

But #efaa and #deff aren't hostile terraformers.

If I not wrong, lorewise, the Xenons gained the ability to reprogram not only themselves but also other AIs after the experiments of the Beryll with xenon tech. They not only lost the control over the new drones based in xenon tech, but also those drones teach the xenons in how to reprogram their our basic coding, making the xenon treat worst that before.

But they CAN land, before the EMP bomb exploit was fixed, I'm used it to capture S miners, and even a P that was stuck inside a Xenon Defence station under construction, and they can land in stations and carriers.
